Battle of Sinhagad

In 1670, Tanaji, who hailed from "Umrathe" near Mahad, Konkan, was busy making preparations for his son, Rayaba's wedding when he was summoned by Shivaji for a meeting. Tanaji put the wedding plans on hold and immediately left for the meeting. On hearing Shivaji's plan to recapture Kondhana fort near Pune from the Mughals, Tanaji took charge of the campaign and started his preparations.

Upon reaching the foot of the fort, Tanaji and his detachment of 300 troops were said to have scaled the fort from the western side on a dark night with the help of a domesticated Bengal monitor lizard (called ghorpad in Marathi) named Yashwanti[3] to which they were said to have tied ropes and sent crawling up top to the precipice of the fort.[4] After two failed attempts, Tanaji and his men successfully scaled the steep hill fortress.[1]

Once inside and after opening the Kalyan Darwaza, Tanaji, his men and another detachment of 500 troops headed by Suryaji (his younger brother) attacked the army holding down the fort. The fort was controlled by Udaybhan Rathod, a rajput officer appointed by Mughal general Jai Singh I.

A fierce combat took place between the forces of Tanaji and Udaybhan. During the battle, Tanaji broke his shield but he continued fighting by tying his upper garment over his defending hand in order to ward off Udaybhan's blows. The fort was eventually conquered but in the process, Tanaji was gravely wounded and died fighting on the battlefield.[5]

Upon hearing the demise of Tanaji, Shivaji was struck with grief and expressed his sorrow by uttering,

"Gad ala, pan sinha gela" ("Got the fort but lost the lion.")

As a tribute to the bravery of Tanaji, the fort was renamed, Sinhagad (lion's fort) by Shivaji.

I absolutely love this poster - whata cool idea..to make the portrait from his previous movies.

But what's with the slew of historicals?

we've already had 3 'big' historicals in 2019..Manikarnika, Kesari and Kalank.. and Saif's recent one..Laal Kaptan.

Then, incoming:

Panipat, Tanhaji, Brahmastra, Shamshera, Takht (if it's ever gonna be done!!)

Everyone 'fell in love' with historicals all of a sudden?😆

Alauddin Khilji and Padmini may not have been true story, but Alauddin Khilji being a total monster and asshole was a true story. Just because he was a sophisticated chutiya doesn't whitewash the atrocities he brought to Hindus.

Why would anybody have to accept Invaders which these Muslim rulers were? Open a history book and see what these invading rulers did to Rajput women.

Because in movies, a plot has to be assigned, where one person has to be shown as hero and another as villain.

Also why I feel you didn't watched Padmavat at all, because in Padmavat, religion was never used as a tool, rather Khilji was shown as person who betrayed his own Islamic people, first by killing his uncle, acting like a savage raping and killing anything he finds and also when all his Muslim brothers were doing namaz, he was there waiting for Padmavati in lust.

In the movie, many Muslims like Khilji's wife and one of his general were shown as good people. While the main culprit in the movie was a Hindu Pandit. So Khilji being Muslim wasn't shown in the movie as the reason why he was evil, he was evil in the movie because of his lust for power. Also whenever a side is defending against an attacker, for their people they are the heros.

We cannot take such things as vilifying Muslims, when the mere fact is the people who invaded those lands were Muslims, we cannot change that fact to not hurt Muslims.

yea, so when muslims invaded the hindu kingdoms intent on killing the kings and their families, looting the citizen and taking over the kingdom, Hindu kings shouldve laid the red-carpet for them and given up their kingdoms announcing the muslims as the rulers ??

which world are you from ??
