When I get married, I don't even want to change my surname because it just doesn't seem right. I've had my name for 24 years now and it makes the most sense to me. Like, it just clicks for me. Anything else, and it feels awkward and wrong, like it just doesn't apply to me. But I'm not closing myself off to the option of perhaps one day wanting to change it. If it fits me and who I am, then I maybe will change it. But at the end of the day, as you said, it should be MY CHOICE and I shouldn't have to feel shame or guilty over it.

Not only that, but it's as if she's purposefully choosing to ignore everything that HS has done for them BEFORE Hanita ever fell in love. It's literally become as if HS se pyaar karna koi gunaah hogaya hai.

I agree you should not lose yourself after marriage. I myself haven't changed my surname and I earn myself. I have never used my husband's name or money . But am I independent? No. I am as dependent on my family as my housewife mother is or I would say more. If my husband leaves me I will as devastated as any mother would have in such circumstances. Basically we all are dependent on someone or other . Your own surname or money earned can't change this fact.

Women in my family don't change their names after marriage. It's a foreign concept for us.

Still, I totally understand that some women do.

It's problematic if they are being forced to do so but as long as it's their own choice, why does it matter?
