Some people take dowry too in the name of gifts but now people rarely take dowry here which is good. But it involves a lot of keethais ka dabba and other things from girl's side including gold as shagun***. Only bride brother, sister, cousin and some uncle aunties go. It happens at day time traditionally and had lunch after it. But these days in punjab, people r doing it at night time as well as save d money for reception while having dinner for everyone and now some even do ring cereminy on shagun day. 3 functions at once lol. But at my place it happens at morning with a lunch celebration only.
