what made him bad guy at some point imo is he really did blv in blood supremacy, heard the prophecy and gave the news to Voldemort knowing very well Voldemort would kill this child, he was ok with a child being dead when he didn't know it was Lily's son n would endanger her. That's evil tbh. And then he lied even though he knew serious was innocent just to avenge his high school rivalry he wanted an innocent man to get Dementors kiss. Not to mention poor Neville's boggart was Snape,he was so much of a bully to his lil kid students. Snape was a bad guy who was madly in love with Lily. Him protecteing Lily's son was a compensation of her death caused by him. Still he hated Harry and always tried to make his life miserable because he can't let go off his personal grudges.
His love for Lily doesn't justify all that tbh. Specially given how they mainly stopped being friends cz he called her a. Mudblood. It's basically like being a part of a Nazi group n using anti-Semitic slur to your Jewish friend n expecting her to be ok with this stuff.
