Actor Saif Ali Khan can reach for the skies when it comes to pleasing girlfriend Kareena Kapoor. And to prove his love, he chartered a private jet for Bebo so she could go to her fave place, Goa, whenever she wanted. Earlier, he got Kareena a ring worth Rs 1 crore and has now promised to get her diamond jhumkas. But Saif isn't the only one who goes over-the-top to please his lady love. Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani plans to gift his wife a home worth $1 billion on her next birthday. Obviously, it's not just the thought that counts with some folks.

Actor Murali who gifted his long-time girlfriend and now fiance Vidya a diamond studded ring on their engagement day, says that when it comes to making your partner happy, you have to go all the way. "She loves diamonds and I wanted the ring to be special. I went through a lot of trouble to get it but it was worth the effort. She was ecstatic when she saw it," he says. Normally, Murali lets Vidya choose her gifts as she is a perfectionist. And what's the most expensive gift he got from her? "Her love", he says and adds, "that's all I want from her".

Anant Iyer, head trade and institutional sales of a company, feels it's not about the money. "The gift should be unique. The sentiment behind it is what matters. Not everyone can buy expensive gifts but they still make their partners happy. Relationships based on expensive gifts tend to be artificial," he says. Chetan Maini, deputy chairman of an automobile company agrees, saying his wife loves handmade gifts. "She likes gifts that are handmade as they are more special because so much thought and time goes into them," he laughs.
