Reason for MM's huge success is content and not AK?

I loved the movie and feel it is a must-watch. But I disagree that Akshay Kumar is the reason behind it, or he is a bigger star than SRK. He is the senior version of Ayushman, chooses good scripts and executes them well. I think the content is working for the movie - it is a feel-good film, easy to watch and enjoy, and has a good dose of humour, entertainment and masala ingredients blended well. Also, it is patriotic to the core and a salute to the Indian spirit. I don't think any of us are expecting hardcore Science, and that's what critics are saying that it is over-simplified. But that's exactly why people can connect with it.

Akshay Kumar is relevant because he chooses good scripts. I don't think he is a bigger star than any of the Khans. He and Ajay Devgan are doing good films, period. But they are not huge stars like the Khans. Mission Mangal is good cinema, and that's why its working.

Please feel free to comment/disagree.

Akki is riding high on patriotism and knows how to use it...chooses scripts according to the current sentiments and social issues...like sanitary issues of women..toilet problem in India👍🏼...etc..nothing wrong in being smart in one's profession and not always thinking with the heart but also the brain....I like how he is handling himself.

AK is a strategical player, he is like Ayushman, he knows how to pick good scripts and loves to experiment. He knows that content is king, so he is using that to his advantage.

a hamming actor with gutter level over acting also tried to be way too smart (just like he used to buy awards...smartly) in last one decade by choosing innovative scripts like fan, jhms, ra one, mnik, zero etc which were great on paper, but nothing worked for the hamming actor 😆

Content doesn't have your movie open at nearly 30 crores, even with holiday.

Akki has given 20 crores plus opening in his last 3 movies out of four(barring 2.0 which opened at just under 20, 19 something), and mostly without a crowd drawing female lead.

People seem to forget that Akki has been reinventing himself and giving hits way before this so.called deshbhakt phase.

His last phase was in 2012, and before in 2006-08, but hey no no, Akki toh kal paida huwa tha.

By your logic, John is a bigger star than Hrithik because his film opened at 13-14 crores and Hrithik's just 11?

Akki has been giving sizeable opening in all of his movies in last 3-4 years, John isn't.

So your point is moot.
