Hello people, I am back with a short update. This chapter had gone really long in a flow but I have cut it down to here. To those who commented, liked & reviewed, again lots of love to you guys.❤️

Here we go.

Chapter- 4 Sneha Bajaj

Bajaj mansion had always been clouded with emotions of loneliness. An exquisite place’s beauty was reduced by the silence it was usually gripped in.Sun shone on the property but not in the hearts of its residents. It was always a house but not a home, until without its youngest resident, the daughter of the house- Sneha Bajaj, an 8-year old bright young girl. With bangs on her forehead, toothy smile on her lips, innocence on her face, warmth in her touch, purity in her presence, she was no less than an angel herself. At least that’s what her angel, Prerna would say.

Sneha, means love, that’s what her father had named her when he held her for the first time. Sneha was a special child, not because she couldn’t speak but because her arrival & presence filled everyone with warmth, except her mother. Sneha Bajaj, though loved irrevocably by her father, never had the chance to know what it felt like to have a mother. All she knew about her mother was that she had left when she was a baby & Sneha always wondered "did she not love me? Was I that bad?" Her father had always maintained a distance from her & she never understood why. Maybe because he doesn’t like me, she would often think. She had spent most of her life with her nanny, Rosy, an old, clumsy lady who despite all her carelessness, loved Sneha. Since Rosy had spent most of her life around her, she understood Sneha to best of her capability. Sneha, in her sign language, would often ask Rosy about why her parents don't love her & she would always get the response that she was loved, more than she could think of. How, was always Sneha had wondered. Rosy would listen to her sign language, make her yummy food, get her ready for school, play with her at times, tell her stories, but that’s it. It was great but Sneha had wanted more, she had wanted a family, just like all her school friends had. She wanted to live with her parents, have a sibling to play, she wanted to feel love of a family. She would often pray to know her mother, to live with her father, to be pampered like all other children she knew. She didn’t know how, but her wishes were granted very soon & her happiness knew know bounds when that happened.

Prerna, Sneha’s angel entered her life as a savior. She was thrilled thed ay she met the woman who would soon become her mother, for the first time in the mall. The way she saved her, scolded her & Rosy for being careless, cared for her, didn’t feel like first time. It felt that they knew each other since long but were meeting just that day. She saved her one more time, again with the same concern on her face & in that moment Sneha wished if she could be her mother. She had made her prayer, unknown that her father had already taken it on him to fulfill her wishes in his own way. Prerna would often call Sneha, her little angel & sunshine and Sneha didn’t know why but she loved to hear her sentiments being returned.

Sneha’s joy knew know bounds when she came to know that her Dada had married her angel. How did it happen, she didn’t know & she didn’t want to know either. For a 7-year old, how is not a concern but what they got is. For her, it was dream come true. She was 7 when she had met Prerna, her mother& they have spent 7 months together now, each moment filled with pure love& happiness. It had been going perfect, just like she had wished.

Prerna had no experience with mute children or with any children for that matter but she tried hard to create a bond with Sneha. In all darkness that had engulfed her life, Sneha had become the ray of sunshine that filled her day with hope, love & innocence. Prerna was furious when her husband had told her of the reason for this marriage. She felt used when her husband had assumed that hiding & using Sneha as a pawn in his shrewd games to get her was just a deal for him. If Prerna had felt disgust for the Bajaj, pity was all she felt for Sneha. If she had hated Bajaj with all her might, love was all she could feel for Sneha. Prerna had wanted to leave the moment this piece of information was revealed, only to get her loyalty promise thrown square at her face. Motherhood, of all things in the world, that’s what Bajaj had expected of her. She didn’t know what to take of this man in that moment- he was evil for sure to have used his daughter in his sick game, but he looked like a hopeful father too, wanting to provide his child a family she could cherish. There was something in Sneha’s eyes that didn’t let her leave- hope, pain, happiness, she didn’t know but Prerna’s empathy for the child clouded her anger for Bajaj & she made a decision, that she would never regret, decision to be a mother. Prerna had been pushed into many relationships against her wish, this marriage was one of them & so was the child, but she wanted some relationships to work, for she knew that a child's hopes didn't deserve to be crushed for her father's sins.

It was a task to understand Sneha but nothing is difficult when people want to be honest in a relationship. Prerna had promised herself that she would always give Sneha the best of herself & take away the worst of her away & she never failed to keep that promise. To overcome the communication problem, Prerna gave Sneha a tablet in which she could type what she wanted to say & the text-to-speech converter will voice the words out in its robotic voice. It wasn’t a perfect system, but it worked. Despite the robotic voice of the device, a look on Sneha’s face was enough for Prerna to know the underlying emotions of the child.

Days, weeks & months passed, Bajaj Mansion got used to hear the name “Sneha” & “Mumma” day & night. Once a house filled with despair &loneliness had turned into home with chatter between human & a robotic voice. Love often finds itself fading after some time but for Prerna-Sneha, it continued to deepen & blossom like a spring flower, adding to the beautiful bliss in their lives. Meanwhile, Prerna’s pregnancy had begun to show symptoms, her belly had grown to a huge bulge. Sneha was thrilled when Prerna told her that there was a baby inside. Her curious little mind didn’t know what that meant but it was enough for her to understand that she could have a sibling soon to play with. The robotic voice would talk to the baby & Prerna would laugh her heart out at her innocence.

Sneha had questions for Prerna & they never ended. It was the first time, she had found someone so interested in her questions & she didn’t leave a chance to enjoy that attention. To her own surprise, her father too had begun to spend more time at home. He was no longer that distant man, although not completely changed, but he would often smile at her, sometimes even play with her when her mother was on bed rest. What more could a child want from life at that age except that it remained like this forever?

Things had been going so well until everything changed. With that changed Sneha Bajaj’s angel as well. 2 days ago, Sneha Bajaj lost her angel somewhere. It's been 2 days, Sneha hadn't met her mother ever since she knew her. The thought of losing her mother again terrified her and all this child hoped was to find her angel, her mother but she didn’t know where to find people who were lost even with their presence in front of them.

Next- The day that changed it all.

From here, this is no longer SS, but an FF, because there is lot of content to call it an SS. The next chapter is quite a big one. Will update as soon I type my lost content back. Characters of this story will spend a lot of time dwelling in their past because their present stems from there & it's important to know how these characters came to be where they are at present.

Until next time, enjoy, like, comment.

Happy reading.🤗

Hello folks. And I am here with the next chapter. Till now, we had been focusing on Bajaj Mansion residents, but this is a different chapter. Since the plot concerns 3 characters, I thought it is right time to introduce Anurag Basu before we move ahead to delve into the history of the incident.

To all the comments & likes, thank you very much.😊

So, here we go.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Chapter- 5 Anurag Basu

Far from the conflicts of Bajaj Mansion, a man in his mid-20s looked dejectedly out of the window of his room, with his stretched out to feel the pouring droplets & mind lost in thoughts of his own.

A year ago, he was pride of everyone who knew him- his father, his mother, his friends & his Prerna. He was a soft-spoken, well-mannered, principled, smart young man, who could be trusted by his loved ones, even with their eyes closed. People would often call him Ram incarnated in this era & it had humbled him to no limits. He had once been the ideal son, brother, friend, student, lover, but he didn’t know if he could call himself an ideal in any way. He had been principled once, but he didn’t know if he could still hold himself to such high standards after all that he had done in this one year. He had lost a lotin this time- even a part of himself that used to be proud. That’s what a year did to Anurag Basu.

Life had always been good for him, free of struggles, protected but he always learnt to take responsibilities on his own. Empathy had been natural to him.He wasn’t the usual, arrogant chauvinistic man, but someone who understood& respected people around him for the value they brought with themselves. While his mother had always been arrogant, it was his father who had always taught him about what it meant to be a man.

“He who conquered others is strong. He who conquered himself is mighty. It’snot necessary for a man to be strong but it is mandatory for him to be mighty, for only then can he help others conquer themselves. Always remember son, true measure of a man is in how he treats someone who could do him absolutely no good. A real great man is one who makes every other person feel great. There are many who want but those who give are still not enough. It is for you to decide, whether you want to be a giver or taker because it takes courage to give, even when you don’t have anything left with you.,” recalled Anurag his father’s words of wisdom.

Anurag had remembered these words as a holy Mantra & followed them by heart, until he forgot them when it came to a woman who deserved nothing bu this love & loyalty.

Prerna, Anurag’s first love, came in his life like a first rain shower ofthe season. He had known her since his childhood, they had been friends despite the status difference of their families, but he never saw her a lowly person. He had always admired Prerna for her chirpy nature, empathy & moreover her principles. Had it not been for his uncle Naveen’s ill-intentions, he would have never known that Prerna was much more than what he had thought of her. She was strong in her own way, to sacrifice for people she loved fiercely, even when this idea was downright degrading to any self-respecting human. He hadn’t known when he fell for her, but when he did, he fell for her hard. Life had never felt so perfect to Anurag Basu since that moment. He had wanted her for life,to spend in warmth of her arms & body, to have children with her, to pamper her & grow old with thousands of memories he could cherish- just like every lover in the world dreams.

But things had changed after the incident that left his father paralyzed& Prerna’s father dead and within no time he made a choice that he would always regret, choice to marry Komolika. Anurag still called it a choice because he had ways to escape but he didn’t try enough. He chose the easiest way he could think to protect those he loved. He had shown Prerna dreams of togetherness, only to trash them with his own hands.

How could you do this to me Anurag. We promised to stay together forever,” Prerna’s words had haunted him back then while he chose to wear mask of hatred to send her away.

He recalled having humiliated her publicly. If only Anurag could take back words & erase memories, he would erase that painful memories from everyone’s mind. He had broken her then. He had married her for the sake of it, made love with her & then he had left her to pick pieces of her broken heart which he broke ruthlessly, all because he didn’t have enough courage to stand for her back then. He was a coward, for he had awakened a woman’s unconditional love for him only to not return the promise.

The biggest coward is a man who awakens a woman’s love with no intention of loving her, Anurag had intentions of loving her but he had failed to uphold his own intentions when he married Komolika. His mother& sister had been thrilled by his decision while his father lay comatose oblivious to all that was happening to his family. Anurag had known of the culprit he was for his misdeeds but he had wanted her to move on, to forget, but how could he expect her to move on, when he himself was inherently incapable of doing it. Just when he thought that Prerna was gone, she had comeback roaring for her rights & with that began his own tussle; tussle between wanting her for himself and keeping a mask to keep her at bay. He had to resort to shaming her repeatedly, only to protect her from menace of his wife, Komolika.

Komolika had always been a narcissist, entitled brat, who had never taken a rejection in her life. Her brother was no different from her & all that because of power that their father held. It came as a surprise to him on how could Mishka, Komolika’s younger sister could turn out to be so much different. Those 3months had been a personal hell for him- to constantly juggle between wanting to support Prerna but having to support his legally wedded, psychopathic wife.He hadn’t known of the kind of danger she posed, unless he was made aware of her past that could horrify any empathetic, sane man. She had caused his father’s paralysis, Prerna’a father’s death and if that wasn’t enough, she had tried to kill his comatose father, harm his family& kill Prerna too, all for her obsession with him. The truth had slapped Anurag Basu out of his sleep & engulfed him in guilt. Guilt of marrying her instead of taking an action against this abomination on humanity. He would often curse himself for not having been able to protect his own family, when it was his duty to do it. If it had not been for Prerna’s continuous struggles against her, even at cost of her self-being, he would have lost much more than he had ever gotten. But he did lose everything, even when she had fought so hard, only because he didn’t fight hard enough to know the truth on his own.

Anurag couldn’t help himself thinking about the past. His impulsive actions had done damage that he could never recover from. But more so, they had damaged the woman he had promised to love, without any of her fault.

“Only if he had courage to stand up to Komolika then, Prerna would have been happily married to him”.

“Only if I hadn’t been so careless about Ronit, she wouldn’t have felt the need to keep her life in line to save him”.

“Only if I had been able to see through her, I could have helped her leave from his prison.”

“Only if I hadn’t insulted her, slapped her, questioned her love, things could have been fine.”

“Only if I had been attentive enough, our child would have been alive &they would have been living a happy life.”

Anurag’s mind was often filled with “Only if” possibilities, ever since,Prerna had miscarried her child, their child to be precise. She had done exactly what he had done to protect his loved ones, marry a man she hated to the core & masked it to keep him at bay. He had failed to recognize the mask that he had once wore to protect her, in his own hurt & ego. She had degraded herself again & again, only to keep him safe but all he did was humiliate her more.

Anurag’s guilt wasn’t just about his actions, but also about his words that he had uttered.

Why does everyone think of me as Ram? Ram never doubted his wife’s chastity even for a moment but I doubted Prerna’s love & loyalty for meeverytime. It had all began with me. I had insulted her for my own cowardice. I should have not married Komolika in the first place. Ronit’s enmity with Prerna was because of what I did with his sister. He had lost his sister, while I lost everything & so did Prerna, all because of me,” he was often haunted by these thoughts in past two months.

Past year journey of Anurag Basu could be summed in one line- from ideal to hateful to regretful. He regretted the decision that marked the beginning of this dreadful cycle of suffering & pain. Despite his attempts to break it, he failed to change it at all.

All his anger had vanished the moment, he discovered the truth in the hospital & what felt next could only be described by grief. Denial, anger, bargain, depression, acceptance- all had hit him one after another on that day.The moment he saw his dead child, he didn’t know if he should be angry at Prerna, himself, Bajaj or his fate. Prerna’s scream after she was informed of her loss had stripped him off his anger, for he knew, she was much more grief-stricken by her loss than he ever could. He had wanted to bring her back, only to be disappointed at what she had chosen for herself.

Anurag had wanted to turn back time, rebuild broken things again but he didn’t know that what he had wanted to repair wasn’t just broken but spread in places unknown. He didn’t know that the woman he loved, herself was lost, somewhere in darkness where no voice could reach her. He didn’t know if what has broken could ever be mended or even healed to normal. He didn’t know if things could ever go back to normal from where they stood today. If there was anything Anurag had learnt in this one year, it was how helpless he was as an ideal. He had failed at lot of things in his life, but no failure came close to how he had failed as a lover & a friend to a woman he loved. For past 2 months, he had felt like a sailor awaiting a boat on a shore, in hope of embarking a new journey, unbeknownst to him that the boat he had been waiting for, itself had been sinking in the abyss of dark ocean, trying hard to escape & set out on a new journey of its own. Would the broken ever heal, he didn’t know, but he could always hope for fate to present a chance to him to make amends in his life. He didn't know if he would succeed but he could at least give it a try.

Anu’s pain is understandable

It’s his journey as well

But he ever wonder what went wrong even before all that happened in their relationship?

Lack of communication and trust in their relationship was major issue

Seem like He did play a role in all the incidents leading to prerna losing her child. For me the child will always be Prerna’s. He married someone else after making promises and love to Prerna. Did he forget that there might be consequences of his actions?

Lot has happened for them to be okay being together. I don’t know about Bajaj but Anu doesn’t deserve to be with Prerna.

I don’t know how I will feel about Anu-prerna together again

I just don’t want Sneha to suffer and not have her angel.

Thank you for the update 🤗
