Shahid Questions Rk's film's Sanju;"He Slept with 300 Girls, No One Q

Shahid Kapoor is currently riding high on success. His recently released film, Kabir Singh directed by ac director Sandeep Vanga Reddy has been making a lot of noise. Along with crashing the box office numbers and receiving rave reviews for his stellar performance, Shahid character, Kabir Singh has also been criticised for encouraging toxic masculinity.

It's been over a month now since the film hit the silver screens but the young crowd is still watching it again and again. As per the recent box office collections, the film has managed to become the biggest blockbuster of 2019. However, despite all the good words, Kabir Singh also landed itself in various controversies.

Expressing his happiness on the success of the film, while talking to Hindustan Times, Shahid said that he is still sinking in the feeling and that it's a surreal to him that the film is running housefull even after five weeks of release. He also spoke about the criticism coming his way.

When Shahid was questioned about playing the flawed character of Kabir Singh, he mentioned that he has never been afraid of playing dark characters like Kabir or Tommy Singh, since in real life he can never be those guys. Also, Shahid tried to explain that films are now being viewed by the audience for what they are and that is why Kabir Singh worked.

The actor shared that just because a character is flawed doesn't mean that one didn’t enjoy the film. Shahid cited the example of a scene from Sanju to explain it. Kabir Singh actor said, “There have been films in the recent past which had characters exhibiting similar traits but then no one really picked on them. To be candid, Sanju had a scene where the guy sitting in front of his wife and saying he has slept with 300 women. No one picked on it the way they went after Kabir Singh. And this is not to say that I didn’t enjoy Sanju. I thoroughly did, because I didn’t watch it to see how people should be, I watched it to see how the character’s life is. The fact that people loved Kabir Singh has just told me that people watch a film for what it is.”

Meanwhile, the star is taking in the success of the film and has been speaking to the media about what he feels about the success coming his way. Kabir Singh was helmed by Sandeep Vanga who also directed Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Deverakonda. The film’s music and story has been loved and it remains one of the biggest successes of 2019.

Sanju had it's own share of outrage but not on the level of Kabir Singh for sure.

That's because nobody expected KS to be a hit let alone a blockbuster, the story was simply and the original movie wasn't a great success while Sanju was a sure hit due to it's controversial subject and curiosity surrounding it.

That's why until the first day's collection nobody really cared about the message, the movie was presenting. A lesser known director, flip hero, below average actress made it an easy target.

In short, with success and fame comes jealousy and haters.

Consensual sex with a girl IS NOT EQUAL to abusing a girl.

Kabir Singh's problem is it glorifies stalking & picking(i.e. ye meri bandi hai type picking) girls. And it trivializes sexual violence.

This also reminds me of another quote by Vanga that riled me up. He said that he did not show anything obscene (read his heroine was fully clothed).

These are sanskaari movies where girls wear modestly and abusive boys do their thing. We are undoing all progress on feminism and going back to being Neanderthals 😳

Vijay Deverakonda defends director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s beliefs of true love!

Kabir Singh has created a rage all over the country. It is one of the most talked about topics right now due to its content that apparently glorifies abusive relationships as passionate. Not only has the movie beaten Vicky Kaushal’s URI: The Surgical Strike to become the highest-grossing film of 2019, but it also turned out to be one of the best roles Shahid Kapoor has ever given Bollywood.

The movie became the talk of the town after director Sandeep Reddy Vanga openly talked about his beliefs in love in an interview with Anupama Chopra. He said, “She slapped him without a reason; at least Kabir had a reason to slap her. If you can’t slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can’t kiss, I don’t see the emotion there.” This statement was not well received by the audience as well as many Bollywood celebrities.

Now after the much received criticism and hate director Sandeep’s Arjun Reddy, played by Vijay Deverakonda in the original Telugu version of Kabir Singh, has defended him. Talking about the 37-year-old director’s belief of true love, Vijay explained that even though the words sounded wrong he understood where Vanga was coming from. He said,

I'm saying I completely understand him and I completely understand people having an issue with it as well. But none of us is wanting to listen to it for what he has to say, we want it to fit our [narrative]... Imagine Sandeep being in a relationship where he has loved someone so much that they were intimate as and when the wanted, they abused each other as and when they wanted, they hit each other, but they loved each other and they were happy. But imagine I'm coming from a house where my parents were hitting each other and when I hear something like this, it disturbs me. So I'm saying it comes from the relationships you had as a person. It comes from your own experiences. You can't generalise it. So what he is saying is right because for him it was what love meant and he absolutely respected that woman and loved that woman and that woman loved him back. So what he's saying was what was his life and his experiences and that's how the relationship was and that's how he showed passion, that's how it was. I think we should listen to him and be okay because we are all unique individuals and we all have unique kind of relationships.

In school I used to hate it whenever I had to fight this bully. He was taller and well built. And I used to always get trashed in the end.

Well what we guys don't understand is that (in most cases, and I've known exceptions!) guy hitting girl is never same as girl hitting guy. Imagine getting into a pyaara but serious hitting match with a WWE wrestler. Now would you enjoy that 🤪

What he was also saying was that those who do not understand his kind of love and are criticising it has never really experienced true love , so apparently there is only one kind of true love for this man which is his kind of love. The man himself generalised it.
