I totally agree that he director directs them actors and that respect is essential between them. and I’m sure they discuss scene. But I also think these improvissd moments can happen when actors are really into a scene.

This specific kiss scene - I don’t know! Erica is a good actress and it could just be a well acted surprise look.

I have heard many such stories actually! actors taken by surprise n then they go with the flow!! It all depends on how comfortable they are with their coactors and how much space the director is gonna give them for improvisation!
