Thanks for the delightful updates Nisha!!

Oh man, both the Singhs and the Raos are dysfunctional in their own ways!

So happy to see that Sam's father at least felt bad that she was crying when she left.

The less I say about my thoughts on Shivu the better.šŸ‘ŽšŸ¼

Bond between a dad and daughter is unexplainable yet super strong. Daddy’s princess will be a princess forever. Seeing her in such condition has moved him even though he was t able to digest Avyaans company.

Hope he is able to connect before they go back home. I’m surprised that mommy is yet to make the move.

Life is not around your coworkers and neighbors who talk BS. But the kith and Kim who will be there when your cards are down. Shivu - will he have the maturity to step back and think about his sister.

Poor girl - hope she gets one decent recon before she leaves. Nisha - what happened to Ajji ?

Sugar& Spice

She sadly had blocked her parents and brother after her return to the hotel. Her father tried calling her many times. But the call did not go through. He went to Leela and was told they had checked out at 4 PM

He returned home heart broken and angry.

Neeru called Avyaan when they were on the way to Benson Town

ā€œAapne kisiko poochha nahi consult nahi kiya aise lekar chale gaye unkoā€

ā€œAre u serious Mum?ā€

ā€œI amā€ Neeru was miffed

ā€œYou guys refuse to acknowledge this event in my life…. I am shocked you even care what I do with her nowā€

ā€œDad ko aur hamey gussa rehne ka haq nahi hai?ā€

ā€œU do… Iam not denying that…. But you should trust me to take care of her. I am 31… I have grey hairā€ he barked

ā€œPhir wohi baatā€

ā€œKya kahen aur Ma?ā€

ā€œDid u ask the Docā€

ā€œJee… MaI can and do the things you worry about I am not an idiot. But Yes I do have a failing enterpriseā€ ā€œBut… umm…. I think I have it together in other areas of my lifeā€

ā€œWe want everything to be normalā€ she sighed

ā€œThat’s not in my control anymore Maā€

ā€œDad se baat karen aap betaā€ she begged in a sugary voice

ā€œHe has refused to talk to meā€

ā€œHe is upsetā€

ā€œDid u just call me to reiterate your stand over and over again?ā€

Samidha was snoring softly on his side as the driver had blasted the AC and they waited in painful traffic jams

ā€œYou went from a loving child to a man in love to someone distant and aloof and now you are always angry betaā€

ā€œMa… I don’t like to be treated differentlyā€

ā€œI have always loved youā€

ā€œI cant believe I am analyzing my relationship sitting in a traffic jamā€ he laughed cynically

ā€œI want us to talk betaā€

ā€œWe are Bangalore, she was rejected soundly by both her parentsā€

ā€œOHHHHā€Neeru sucked her breath in, in shock

ā€œAND her brotherā€

ā€œOh noā€¦ā€

ā€œJeeā€

Avyaan hoped his mother would utter ā€œBechariā€ ā€œPoor kidā€

Nope….

ā€œHmmmmmā€ ā€œParent sbhi pareshaan hongey beti ne aisa kiyaā€

ā€œYou are actually defending them nowā€¦ā€ he said firmly

ā€œU know I cannot do anything without Dad’s permissionā€

ā€œI know thatā€ he shook his head bitterly

ā€œTo isliyeā€

ā€œAap bhi Samidha ko support nahi kar paayengi… yahi na?ā€

ā€œAll ofus are hurting betaā€

ā€œNone more than me and her Maā€

That response stung Neeru. He no longer associated himself with the ā€œSinghsā€

ā€œDo u like her?ā€ she asked inaudibly

ā€œMa hum traffic mein atke hain… can we please talk later? Thanks for calling. Aap mujhe text karen, what can I bring for u. She has bought a bunch of stuffā€ he relaxed and smiled suddenly

ā€œSouth Indian to bas… khaana pasand hai, who to Dilli mein mil jaata haiā€

ā€œSureā€¦ā€he nodded

She had stopped at the Karnataka Emporium on MG Road and bought a giant bag of things

She had also stopped at a local hole in the wall snack and grocery shops and stuffed multiple bags worth of snacks and spices

ā€œTheek hai I will think of somethingā€

Neeru couldn’t believe her son was acting like he was married and was visiting in laws

Though she didn’t openly support her husband for fear that it would egg him on further

She was disappointed that Avyaan had chosen a South Indian

Sarvansh had ā€œcaughtā€ a ā€œmaharajahā€ alliance

Avyaan was yet again unlucky

Her hopes of telling off her husband had been dashed too

All the years he was pining for Charu she had done a lot of chest thumping, promising Mr Singh ā€œshe will make sure the girl she picks for him will be JUST RIGHTā€

She hung up the call and stared at the phone on her desk

Her husband didn’t know they were in Bangalore

She had found out just because she had visited Jor Bagh and the guard had told her

Everything was wrong in so many ways…. She sighed and stared out the window

ā€œDo u want to eat at MTR?ā€ samidha spoke gruffly opening her eyes a crack peering out the car window

ā€œWhat is thatā€¦ā€

ā€œYUMMMMā€she leaned back and closed her eyes again

ā€œMTR hogteera?ā€ she urged the driver

He nodded politely

ā€œWhy didn’t you take a nap?ā€ she insisted

He grinned and shook his head

ā€œWhat were you doing?ā€

He chuckled when he realized she was nagging

ā€œOh… just talking o Ankur & Riyazā€

ā€œOh boy! Another watch party?ā€ she pretended to be bored

ā€œYepā€ he nodded

She wished he would say where and what… and if she was was invited too

ā€œProbabl ya horror series…. Ughhhhā€

ā€œCome check it outā€ he muttered playfully

She was overjoyed…

He sighed and turned away

ā€œU worry too much… you should be like meā€ she said smugly

ā€œShould I?ā€ he teased

ā€œJust stop worrying and do what u wantā€ she advised sagely

ā€œI will do that Docā€ he pulled her closer with a smile

It’s very interesting to note , observe how practices have kept evolving with some going on to become obsolete .

I’m going back to the time where sati had to be abolished purely because that forced custom couldn’t substantiate itself to a reason or rational.... that a woman as a widow is considered pure and devoted if she burns along with body of the husband dead. Laws have evolved to outlaw certain rigid practices that’s beyond comprehension of cruelty.

And then there are some considered outlawed coming of age to get legalized like the same sex marriage because the rationalization to those that are considered natural doesn’t hold candle to the freedom of love or the right to love.

I think we are confused criticizing the young as merely aping western practices. That criticism is also becoming redundant as We are living in a multi cultural scociety where the borders of western, eastern , regional and such are becoming irrelevant and redundant today at a pace that’s not comprehensible to the non google generation.

Knowledge , reason , substantiation ,living life each to their own is the only RELAVANT practice that finds its acceptance.Even the term ā€˜cultural war ā€˜ is becoming farce as there are no borders that define a set of cultural values today.

It’s truly ā€œCulture without bordersā€. What was shunned upon 20-25 years is acceptable now.

Actually one of my best buddy’s younger brother lost his wife to cancer last year. They were married for 10 years. No kids and fertility treatment revealed Stage 4 cancer. 40 yo in this country all alone without a family. It was so depressing to see him. He didn’t want to participate in any socials.

My friend registered his name in local NJ temple. Her parents were not very happy and wanted to wait for at least one year. His late wife’s Brother was also okay to move on in his life. They found a young widow from California who lost her husband in an accident just within the first year of wedding.

They decided to get married in NJ and we are all going to be part of the festivity.

Widower remarrying was never a big deal. But remarriages of young widows are becoming very acceptable in the society. Which is how it should be. A 30 something women shouldn’t have to contain her physical and emotional needs. We are not living in a society where you are in a joint family who provide that physical security and emotional support.

It’s more important in nuclear family lives these days to find a partner.

It doesn’t matter how they find them like our hero and heroine. But being there for one another to move to next stage of life is more important.

Kalpana

Yes very very interesting. Inter caste marriages were frowned upon when I was little. Then inter state marriages were frowned upon, then inter RELIGION marriages were frowned upon

Then inter race marriages

Now same gender marriages are frowned upon

Jas, thats an incredibly sad yet happy story. Yes. I am glad India and Indians are choosing individual happiness finally. My mother will always say "The extremely rich and the extremely poor have never given a "fart" about anything,"

I know of maids who have married multiple times, have "kept" men, hook up with whoever whenever, the rich of course... I dont need to say anything, starting from Maharajahs with multiple wives with Mukesh Ambani hooking up Sushmita while being married, politicians having multiple wives while the first one is alive (women have shamefully allowed themselves to be degraded too)

Everything and anything goes!

Its us middle class folks who give too much "fart" about everyone and everything

Its time we stopped and did stuff to please ourselves.

Run outat zero

They returned to Delhi on Diwali morning with no family acceptance or love, chased out of Bangalore ignominiously. The planes were empty and roads were packed in Delhi.

They arrived home at 2ish. The building was adorned with a light trim, and the trees were wrapped with lights and the guard was stringing marigold on the thick wood gates

He was surprised to see them home

ā€œSir Mummy aayi thiā€ he said grinning sheepishly

Avyaan handed him a Rs.500 bill and asked him to stop by at home later

ā€œPooja ka samaan le aaoon sirjee?ā€

Avyaan shook his head

Heusually went home for it

This yearhe had no invite, so he will have to stay put

WhatsApp messages were flying between friends the last couple days over who was hosting it

He had many invites.

He wondered if she had any

They hadmet two of her friends on the way to the airport at a Sukh Sagar at 6 AM

Theywept, they giggled and gabbed endlessly until Avyaan had declared it was timeto get going

The friends had given her bags of things for the baby

Samidha hugged the bags like they were tiny humans

That’s all she had been given as gifts for the baby

Ajji had called too in shock at the way she had been treated, she wanted to come to Bangalore Samidha had told her it was no use and she was returning o Delhi

Ajji had promised to ā€œscoldā€ Vimala, Samidha’s mother

Samidha had later lamented to him ā€œAs if my mother is going to care about scoldings, this not like my mother refused to give me money for new gold earrings or refused to let me wear shortsā€

ā€œAtleast she is tryingā€ Avyaan reminded

ā€œU know what?ā€ she had turned to him smiling

ā€œWhat?ā€

ā€œU would have made a better Rao than me, you are accepting and kinder than I amā€

ā€œI can be so because I am not a Raoā€ he grinned

Samidha texted the maid, and grabbed another one by the elevator and had her clean the house

Set his tiny ā€œmandirā€ out in the living room on a carved Kashmiri stool (Riyaz had bought for him many years ago on a trip to Jammu)

She paid the maid to bring flowers and the maid swindled her but she got what she wanted

Baskets of flowers for thousands of rupees

Rumi brought Toast home at 5 ish

He went crazy for 20 minutes licking Samidha’s neck and face and hair

ā€œUghhhhh….I am not dog foodā€ she scowled

He was taking a nap, but Toast leaped over the bed and woke him up

ā€œI could give u my everything for that welcomeā€ he growled cuddling the dog

ā€œAre we invited to ur house?ā€ Rumi inhaled the scent of Chandan agarbathi and the smell of food cooking in the kitchen

ā€œIt hought we were going to be at Sudesh’sā€ he sat up in bed pulling a sheet over his vest clad chest

ā€œWhat allis she making?ā€ Rumi asked

ā€œOh justpulao and kheer and sambar… and coconut burfiā€ Samidha said shyly

ā€œThere uhave itā€ Avyaan cuddled his dog

ā€œThat sounds YUMMMā€

ā€œI don’t think its north Indian…. My pooris are never round so I don’t makeā€ she giggled

ā€œI don’t careā€Avyaan shrugged

ā€œHow do u know?ā€ Rumi asked

ā€œBikram’s parents… his mother came for Diwali right?ā€ Samidha explained

ā€œOh yaya…sorryā€ Rumi was apologetic

ā€œNo… its fine…he was a northieā€ Samidha was somber

Bik was meticulous and orderly, and spent the days leading up to any festival deep cleaning, scrubbing, even painting if need be… totally into it

Avi, was chill… asleep at 5 PM

He looked delicious tho… she sighed in her mind

ā€œI can make chaiā€ Samidha offered

ā€œNo… u are making too much.. I will make chai, u drag ur… umm…. U know….. him out of bedā€ Rumi struggled to label the relationship

Avi extended an arm, dutifully so she could drag, his eyes twinkling

ā€œI will dragā€ she mumbled yanking

He tugged his arm back gently she fell over him

ā€œI didn’t say I WONT drag backā€ he whispered staring into her eyes…
