Udaan the ongoing long-running show on Colors seems to be loaded with few problems!!

A while back, we at IWMBuzz.com reported that Gaurav Sareen has quit the show owing to creative differences.

But now we hear that there could be more trouble brewing for this Guroudev Bhalla production show.

If informed sources are to be believed, the lead cast (Gaurav and Tanya Sharma etc) have not been paid for the last three or four months. Possibly some cheques might have bounced as well.

Our source tells us that apparently the cheques of many in the crew of Udaan have also been pending for the last 3-4 months.

When we again touched base with Gaurav he maintained that he did not quit due to monetary reasons, but for creative issues only. But when pushed on the news on non payment he said,“ I can’t comment but what you say might have happened.”

Toral Rasptura who plays Chakor when contacted said, “As I just entered 2 months back, my payment cycle is yet to start. But I too have heard that that some actors might be facing certain financial issues but don’t have more details to offer.”

The show was supposed to end in 2018 due to low ratings, but got a last minute reprieve. A new cast was brought in post the generation leap. Meera Deosthale who had been main lead since 2016 quit as she did not want to become mother. Toral was brought in her place to play Chakor.

Our source quips “It does not make sense that how come a show which must have made a huge amount of money given that is has been running for over four years should land up in the red, if that indeed is the case.”

We tried to get in touch with the other lead in question Tanya Sharma, Producer Guruodev Bhalla and the channel spokesperson but again failed to get in touch with them.

We really hope things resolve on the monetary front for the team!!

so the truth behind taking generation leap is out that is cost cutting.

I guess new actors not treated fairly obviously because trps never increased after they enter.

Our old actors in 4 years; I guess none of them complained about monetary issues means they all are paid.

So the idea was to change everyone and their salary was supposed to be higher because of higher ratings of the show in the past.

And bring new actors so expense will cut down based on current ratings.

But it's unfair after working so long hours, actors not paid properly on time for months.

If they don't have enough capital why keep a show running, why didn't they just end it instead of leap? And really how does a successful show get to this stage? This shows how much off screen stuff affects everything onscreen... story, characters etc.

Yes if there was a crisis financially, then they could have better shut the show down instead of a disastrous ineffective leap.

but then I think, he decided to mint money with cost cutting but it backfired.

poor new leap actors. I really pity.. their work isnt appreciated on any account

Are actors paid according to TRP? And how are they affording Toral? She must be expensive na.

Two major corrections..

1) The show was supposed to end in 2018 due to low ratings

It was the second best show running successfully on Colors back then.

2) Meera Deosthale who had been main lead since 2016 quit as she did not want to become mother

She doesn't want to play a Mother.

@sandy,

I think it's trps have affect on payments.

once while a strike going on; of the set crew workers, they were saying how actors payment got increasing with trp rise.

basically they were talking about their wage issues but they pointed about how only actors got benefit of the higher trps that time.

I guess they were starting at a base rate, then it will increase with trps.

Actors were keen on for more trps may be for this reason as well.

Like being in top 10 or top 5 definitely benefit actors

There may be another factors ,like seniority and currently people talking about popular actors paying higher etc.

but basically I think it's trps, the main deciding factor and there are some 60 or 70 shows going on and higher trp shows are very few in numbers and actors getting paid based on that I guess.

After trps increased to 2.5 back in September,if Colors decided to continue Udaan in 8.30 slot itself then the fate of Udaan would have been different.

Sandy, I read somewhere that Profits are earned from two sources a) TRP, b) Ads. If a show is running below or equal to 0.5, it is in fin crisis. 2+ is clear profits, 1-2 earns decent.

Coming to the actors payment, it is categorized to lists, like 'A-listers', where Top actors & actresses are paid periodically, few are paid weekly too, then 'b-listers' so on..The upcoming & new actors are paid contract wise, since Meera is upcoming, she might be contract bound & when the contract was about to end, they decided to cost cut by roping in new actors instead of renewing her contract. Vj isn't new, so he must be expensive, so it might be easier for them to let him go.

Toral falls under supporting cast, it was luck by chance she bagged Chakor, I don't think she is expensive.

@ Divya... How is Toral supporting cast? She played Anandi. And where do you get all this info from? 😊
