yes, so either the content of her film is really good to be invited there to have the first look or.... they paid for a slot...which mind you is very very competitive.... Mallika sherawat bought a slot every year in this fashion....First look of films usually get invited to be unveiled there

You don't get invited. You pay to set it up just like you would do anywhere else. It's like renting a hotel in Mumbai to interact with journalists about your film. If your film looks really good, maybe you can get a deal for distribution out of it. But hardly any big deals ever happen at Cannes. Most deals happen at places like Sundance, TIFF or Berlin. Cannes is big in name only and mostly about women showing their clothes and bodies and a lot of dirty backdoor parties.

Films that screen at festivals don't get invited either. They apply to be considered and if the festival directors agree, then they get a slot. Any big movie can get a screening if they want because the festival directors already know that people are interested. It's important only for small films that are trying to get attention or looking for distributors.
