Disney top 4 movies (Little Mermaid, Beauty and beast, Lion King, and Aladdin all had some type of social message

Beauty and Beast = dont judge a book by its cover

Lion King = take responsibility for your actions

Aladdin = Be yourself

Little Mermaid = what was it ???

It didn't HV any such message imo. Things worked out pretty finefor Ariel , she didn't face any difficulty on land either n basically left her identity for a boy she barely knew.

I think what it did was kickstart the Disney renessaince n move away from the trope of classic docile princess. Ariel had much more of a character n voice than say snow white or Cinderella or sleeping beauty. But yeah the story is not my fav.

Ahh... the big 4 renaissance films of Disney. The songs and visuals were something else back then..... sighs...

Now we are tortured with crappy live action remakes of the original animated masterpieces...🤢🤔

Anyway... I digress. To answer your question, the little mermaid didn't really have a message per se...But what I liked was that Ariel wanted what she wanted and really went after her dreams... she dreamt of a life above the ocean; Eric (the Prince) was a motivating factor yes...But he wasn't the sole reason Ariel wanted a life above water.

nothing 🤣🤣I mean look at Eric,first he falls for a girl's voice then fall for agirl without any voice then gets hypnotized n almost marries Ursula😂😂but I think he was one of the first Disney princess to have a character other than being the bland royal prize. Though Sleeping Beauty's prince Philip was the first one to have distinct character traits n do some fighting.

Disney princes barely get much character development honestly. I think the only prince who had a distinct character arc is Flynn/Eugene in Tangled. Also maybe Naveen in Princess n the frog

THE LITTLE MERMAID from Disney if you are talking about is not the actual story : so the message here is to follow your heart and then you can get what you want...

but in the actual The Little Mermaid : which is far more tragic and depressing : where the mermaid dies in the end and turns into foam, that has a very deep message...it's hard to explain in words...
