Alia's dance number in SOTY 2 was an after thought

If the truth be told, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is jittery over the release of their splashy college romantic-musical Student Of The Year 2. “Why should they not be jittery after the crippling blow that was dealt by the failure of Kalank?” argues a source close to Dharma.

But then comes the surprising revelation. “Kalank has made Dharma all the more determined to make a success out of Student Of The Year 2. Naak kaa sawaal hai (it’s a matter of prestige). They are going all-out to ensure the film gets a big box office boost,” says the source.

Apparently Alia Bhatt’s dance number with Tiger Shroff was an afterthought. Admitting this, one of the prominent players in the project says, “I agree Alia came in at the last minute. They wanted a big star to dance with Tiger. The Alia-Tiger song and dance is a big boost to the film. As far as cutting marketing budgets is concerned, they have taken a voluntary decision to go slow on publicity during the last phase so as to not create an over expectation in the audience. There’s no budget cut as such.”

However, this source admits that if SOTY2 under performs then the producers are in trouble. “Fox has absorbed the losses of Kalank. But if SOTY 2 doesn’t work, Fox Star Studios may have to re-negotiate with Dharma Productions,” says the source.

also somehow alia is the only one thus far from soty 2 who held her own while dancing with tiger..tara and ananya looked like bg dancers in both the songs with him..

so what ever strategy..it worked!

I think parts of this is not true. Didn’t Alia shoot for this long before Kalank’s release? Article is trying get some half truth half gossip about Dharma’s position today while still selling Alia as a potential savior of the film if it works. Alia’s addition in the song was nothing more than an attempt to present her as a sexy and hot. Dharma and her PR had a certain plan and strategy in mind for her this year and Kalank’s flop threw a major wrench in that. So now they are changing their tune.

After thought ? An its turned into the top song of the album. Maybe best party song of the year ? Thats jadoo right there. IMHO video is not that good but the audio song is great

But that’s not a fair comparison if you look at how Hook Up was shot. You have Alia and Tiger front and center while the background dancers are a bit away, or Alia and Tiger on a table. Heck the first minute of the song it’s just the two of them. Ananya and Tara are more or less part of the crowd. The whole set up of this song is very different. Yes it’s a hit song, but come on, it is obvious every effort was made to make it about Alia while in the other songs the effort was on Tiger and his dance or his abs.

true..but alia has something in her which commands attention..good or bad..she makes herself notice..this forum more than enough proves that..she has a quality of getting noticed..whether in good or bad way

ananya had tons of focus on her in fakira though but even there it seemed like only tiger's show..

well she is just making her debut..so lets give her more time..she looks great though

Hmm but bad attention isn’t something one should count as their positive qualities. And on IF and social media most of the attention on Alia lately has been bad. That being said, yes she’s still immensely popular so she and her song would still be at a higher and better position than Ananya’s.

OT I still think the article is partially wrong. This song was shot I think before Kalank promotions even started.

i'd hardly call the song a "chartbuster"....A chartbuster is like Guru's Slowly Slwoly over 100MILLION views in just two weeks lol. Released 1 week before this horrid song

all those views are also just people watching to have a nice laugh

This is a chart-buster song? In which world? Indian music is going lower and lower if that's the case. I even read First Class was a chart-buster. Cruel time.

All I keep reading in these Soty press releases is that they got this big superstar Alia to do this song....Oh my how lucky we are (Soty makers).....😆 dhanya bhaag hamare ...😆

Whether the song was planned originally or added in later to associate Alia with a .....in their minds ....hopefully hit film to erase Kalank from people's minds.......

All news make sure to shamelessly promote superstar Alia 😆 instead of the one on whose shoulders the film rests Tiger.....
