Why do people make a big deal out of trending or views?

As if that stuff will matter in ten years? Like, yeah, someone can be popular for a day, their trailer might have tons of views or their name might be trending on twitter but does it really matter? Clearly it won't help any actors/actresses have guaranteed success. So why do people make a big deal out of things like that? For bragging rights?
