CHAPTER 7

INT: The United Cafe

Sid and Prerna were talking to each other when suddenly Anurag's phone rang. The name flashed on the screen was "Love. Seeing the name, Prerna's eyes got filled with tears but she immediately whipped it off so that Sid doesn't see it. Sid received the call.

Sid- "Anurag..abhi washroom mein hai...jab vo aayega toh I will tell him" and disconnected the call. Then he looked at Prerna and found a change in her face but before he could ask something Anurag came there. Anurag came and sat there.

Sid- "Ananya ka phone aaya tha.."

Anurag- "oh..tu ne receive kar liya tha na...warna naraz hi ho jaati hai...(then he looked at Prerna)..main usse call back karke aata hun"  

Prerna- "okay" said with a forced smile on her smile. Anurag was about to go but he stopped and looked at Prerna.

Anurag- "tumhara kajal smudge ho gaya hai..theek kar lo" then he walked off from there to go out of the cafe. And Prerna kept looking at Anurag till his figure didn't disappear from her view.

And all this while, Sid was busy in noticing Prerna's behaviour, the change in her behaviour from when he met her and now. Then he snapped his fingers in front of her face. Prerna looked at him and passed a smile. He was about to say something but she cut him off

Prerna- "main washroom se aati hun.." she then from there.

INT: Washroom

Prerna kept her hand bag on the side of the slab and stood in front of the washbasin with her hands on the slab. Then she looked up in the mirror on her reflection. Tears were rolling down her cheeks. And she had flashes of their childhood and suddenly she remembered a line she said in her childhood,

Prerna- "Jab hum bade ho jayenge na...tab hum dono shaadi kar lenge..."

Anurag- "haan...kyuki hum dono ke alaawa..ek-dusre ko koi aur nahi sambhal sakega..." and the atmosphere filled with laughter.

Prerna- "tumne theek kaha tha..Anu...time has changed. Main hi pagal hun...tumse mohabbat kar baithi. Bhul hi gayi thi ki, Anurag Basu aur Prerna Sharma ka koi mel nahi hai...bhul gayi thi. Aur iske liye toh main tumhe blame bhi nahi kar sakti tumne toh kabhi kaha hi nahi tha...ki tum mujhse pyaar kartey ho. Tumhare liye toh main humesha tumhari dost thi...(she took a deep breath and washed her face and did little touch up so that no one know that she cried)...aaj se main sirf tumhari dost..." she then came out of the washroom.

She went towards their table and by that time Anurag also finished his call. She took her seat and Anurag noticed slightly red eyes of Prerna. He placed her palm on her palm.

Anurag- "Prerna, are you fine?"

Prerna- "haan-haan"

Anurag- "tumhari eyes red kyu hai.."

Prerna- "arre vo...actually jab kajal theek kar rahi thi...toh theek hone ke bajay..aur kharab ho gaya tha..toh facewash karna pada aur vo thoda aankh mein chala gaya tha..."

Anurag- "tum koi kaam dhyaan se nahi kar sakti ho??" and again her eyes got filled with tears.

Sid- "Prerna..tumhare aankhon mein aansun..tum thik ho??" She immediately whipped it off.

Anurag(concerned voice)- "Prerna?"

Prerna- "actually... abhi bhi...thodi jalan ho rahi hai aankhon mein.." listening this Anurag immediately took out his handkerchief and blowed hot air from his mouth on the handkerchief and then he put it on Prerna eyes.

Prerna- "ye kya kar rahe ho.."

Anurag- "you will feel better" and then he repeated the same for the eyes for few more times.

Prerna- "ab thik hai...thank you"

Anurag- "pakka?"

Prerna- "haan"

Sid- "guys, I think we should leave...isse pehle ki woh hume yahan se nikale..." then Anurag paid the bill and then they left from there.

EXT: The United Cafe

They were standing in the parking area surrounded by vehicles.

Sid- "toh...ab tum log kahan ja rahe ho.."

Anurag- "ghar..chal tujhe bhi drop kar deta hun.."

Sid- "nahi nahi..main car leke aaya hun aur mujhe kuch kaam bhi hai.."

Anurag- "okay"

Sid- "ok...chal main chalta hun..(he hugged Anurag and then he looked at Prerna)..and bye...hope to see you again.." he then left from there.

Anurag- "chalo.."

Prerna- "nahi main chali jaungi.."

Anurag- "hum agar ek jagah ja rahe hai toh alag alag kyu jaana hai.."

Prerna- "matlab?"

Anurag- "hum Basu mansion ja rahe hai.."

Prena- "but Anurag"

Anurag- "Baba bhi chahtey hai" and he called Moloy

Anurag (to Moloy)- "hello baba, apni pyaari beti ko kahiye na ghar chal le meri baat toh maanti hai..." and handed the phone to Prerna

Prerna- "kakababu...aap toh jaantey hai na.."

Moloy- "mere liye aa ja...aur ab bahut wakt beet gaya hai...sab kuch badal gaya hai..." Prerna looked at Anurag

Prerna- "haan..bahut kuch badal gaya hai.." and Anurag looked confusingly at her

Moloy- "matlab"

Prerna- "par agar.."

Moloy- "kuch nahi hoga...tum bas aa jao.."

Prerna- "thik hai.." and then she cut the call and gave the phone to Anurag.

Then they drove to Basu Mansion.

INT: Basu Mansion

Mohini and Nivedita were sitting and chatting in the drawing. When Moloy interrupted them and sat beside them.

Moloy- "kya baatein chal rahi hai.."

Nivedita- "nothing specific, baba.."

Mohini- "how was your meeting Moloy

Moloy- "great..btw I have a news for you..."

Mohini- "what news??"

Moloy- "Prerna is in the city.."

Mohini- "Prerna...Prerna Sharma...Rajesh ki beti?"

Moloy- "haan...aaj milne aayi thi mujhse..."

Mohini- "good"

Moloy- "maine abhi usse ghar bulaya hai.."

Mohini- "ok..no problem.."

Moloy- "acha..vo kuch din yahan hi rahegi.." listening this, Mohini stood up

Mohini- "Moloy...vo yahan kyu rahegi. It's okay...ki yahan aa rahi hai...but rehna I can't agree..."

Moloy- "Mohini...bas teen se char din ki baat hai..please.."

Mohini- "thik hai...but only for 3 to 4 days.."

Moloy- "vo toh mana kar rahi thi...but maine hi usse force kar diya.."

Mohini- "ab kar diya hai toh kya hi kar saktey hai.." and Moloy got excited and called one of his house helper

Moloy- "ache se suji ka halwa banao aaj meri beti Prerna aa rahi hai"

CHAPTER 8

INT: Basu Mansion

In the hall, Mohini and Nivedita were sitting ideally and were witnessing everything going on. Tapur and Moloy were busy in doing all the arrangements. 

Moloy- “Tapur...guest room ready ho gaya hai”

Tapur- “Haan baba”

Moloy- “aur tumne suji taste kiya??”

Tapur- “Haan baba...sab ready hai. Main bahut excited Hun...Prerna di se itne time ke baad milne wali hun” In the meantime, Anurag and Prerna entered the house. Anurag called for his baba. Moloy and Tapur turned towards their direction. And happiness was clearly visible on their faces after seeing Prerna there. Mohini and Nivedita stood up from the sofa and walked up to Moloy. Anurag and Prerna walked up to them. Prena greeted Moloy and she was about to touch his feet but he stopped her and hugged her.

Moloy- “tum beti ho meri” and then he broke the hug. Prerna moved to Mohini and greeted her and touched her feet. Mohini blessed her with a smile. Then she walked to Nivedita and Prerna could sense little bit of irritation in her body language.

Prerna- “Hii, Nivi di...kaise ho aap??” 

Nivedita- “I am good...tum kaisi ho?” said with a forced smile. But Prerna smile genuinely 

Prerna- “main bhi theek hun” and she was interrupted by Tapur

Tapur- “Prerna di(Prerna looked at Tapur who was standing with a puppy face)...aap toh mujhe bhul hi gayi ho” Prerna walked up to Tapur

Prerna- “aww...my baby…main tumhe kaise bhul sakti hun” and hugged her tightly. Then they moved towards the sofa and sat there.

Moloy- “Onu...tum dono Ko aane mein der kaise ho gayi”

Anurag- “Prerna ka samaan lene Gaye thein”

Moloy- “ acha..ok” 

Mohini- “aur sab kaisa hai ghar par” Prerna looked at Mohini and smiled widely as she was not expecting this from Mohini.

Prerna- “sab theek hai..”

Mohini- “and how you are here after all these years?”

Prerna- “bas apne purane shehar ghumne aayi thi..aur” but moloy interrupted her as he saw house helper bringing suji ka halwa

Moloy- “baatein toh hoti rahegi (he took the bowl from the tray)...see your favourite suji ka halwa...” and prerna smiled. She took a bite from it and thanked him for that.

Mohini called one her house helper and asked her to show Prerna her room. But Tapur interrupted her.

Tapur- “maa, I will show her (she then looked at Prerna)..let me show you, your room” and Prerna picked up her bag 

Moloy- “rehne do..bag tumhare room mein pahuch jayega..”

Prerna- “koi baat nahi kakababu..”

Moloy- “no” and called one of his house helpers to take the bag. 

INT: Corridor

Prerna and Tapur were walking towards the guest room. 

Tapur- “ di..I am so happy..ki aap yahan aaye..I missed you so much..” prerna side hugged her

Prerna- “Same here...”

Tapur- “pata hai di shayad hum sabse zyada baba aur bhai ne aapko miss kiya..” Prerna looked at Tapur

Prerna- “Anurag?”

Tapur- “haan...bhai jabse London se wapas aaye hai na..vo toh issi koshish mein thein ki aap sab kahan ho iska pata chal jaye (she looked at the door of the room) aur yeh hai bhai ka room..come let me show you his room”  and they entered inside the room.

INT: Anurag’s Room

Prerna looked at each and every corner of the room and suddenly her eyes stopped at one side of the wall. On that wall there were different photographs of Anurag with his family and there was a photo of their childhood. 

Prerna- “pata hai Tapur, ye photo tab ki hai” Tapur cut her off in the mid

Tapur- “jab aap dono 10 saal ke thein and aap dono park gaye huye thein baba ke saath..” 

Prerna (confusingly)- “kakababu ne bataya?”

Tapur- “no...bhai ne. Bhai aap  dono ki bachpan ki bahut saari baatein batatey rehtey hai..”

Prerna- “really?”

Tapur- “haan...chaliye ab chaltey hai..” and both of them came out of the room and proceeded towards the guest room. Then they entered inside the guest room and her bag was already there.

INT: Guest room

Tapur- “so this is your room..and now you quickly get freshen up then we will have dinner together”

Prerna- “okay..just give me 15 to 20 minutes” and Tapur went from there. 

Prerna was keep thinking about what all Tapur said to her in Anurag’s room. A smile appeared on her face and suddenly she remembered about the phone call Anurag received in the cafe. Now sparkles of her eyes were replaced by tears. She pulled the bag to keep it on the bed but it was about to fall on her feet. But in the meantime, Anurag came there and held the bag and kept it on the bed. 

Anurag- “dhyaan kahan hai tumhara..abhi lag jaati toh” but there was no response from her side. Then he held Prerna by her shoulder and turned her towards him but still she was looking down. And a lone tear dropped on his hand. He immediately held her chin and made her look at him. He saw tears in her eyes and seeing that something broke inside him. He whipped off her tears and made her sit on the bed. Held her hand protectively.

Anurag- “what has happened?..kisi ne kuch kaha hai tumse. Tell me. I am there na” now she looked straight in his eyes which was moist, filled with care and love. She was able to see and understand each and every feeling and emotions his eyes were reflecting. But she was confused about the love she was able to see in his eyes, was from that Anurag, the friend or Anurag, the lover.

Anurag shook her a little to get her attention. Prerna understood what he wants to know.

Prerna- “nothing (she smiled)...just remembered all the old moments…” again a lone tear escaped from her eyes. He held in his palm and whipped her tears.

Anurag- “please never ever cry...I just can’t see tears in your eyes..” and he embraced her in a tightly as if he can’t lose her. After sometime, they broke the hug and both of them were silent for sometime.

Prerna- “waise..tum..kisi..kaam se aaye thein..”

Anurag- “haan..vo..baba ko Rajesh uncle ka number chahiye tha..unhe baat karni thi..”

Prerna- “main tumhe WhatsApp kar deti hun..” and then she sent him the number. 

Anurag- “chalo tum freshen up ho jao...phir dinner kartey hai..” and Prerna nodded positively. Anurag went up to the door and then called her out

Anurag- “suno (Prerna turned to him)...tumhare chehre pe muskurahat achi lagti hai...vo aansun nahi..” prena smiled and he went from there. 

INT: Dining Area

Everyone were present in the dining area. Moloy was sitting on the head chair and beside him, on the right, Mohini was sitting. Beside Mohini, Nivedita was sitting followed by Tapur. On the left of Moloy, Anurag was sitting. The table was served with Delicious foods.

Anurag looked here and there. Tapur noticed that and smiled.

Tapur- “ Prerna di aa rahi hai..” Anurag immediately looked at Tapur. In the meantime, Prerna came downstairs and went towards the dining area. 

Moloy- “come” and Anurag pulled a chair beside him. Nivedita made an irked face. Prerna looked at Moloy and he nodded to her. She sat beside Anurag. By that time, Anupam also came back from office. Moloy called Anupam.

Moloy- “Dekho kon aaya hai..” Anupam came towards the table and saw Prerna there. A big smile appeared on his face and he went towards Prerna. She stood up from her place and they hugged each other. 

Anupam- “kab aayi tum?”

Prerna- “Kolkata toh kuch din pahle aayi but yahan shaam ko aayi..”

Anupam- “acha...chalo main fresh hoke aata hun…”

Prerna- “okay..we will wait for you..” and Anupam went from there. 

Anupam and Prerna shared a good bond as he helped her in her studies. But after few months of marriage of Anupam and Nivedita,  the Sharma family left Kolkata. 

Nivedita- “let’s start eating, Anupam will join us..” and they were about to start eating when Anupam came there. Tapur was about to stand up from her seat to him place beside Nivedita but he said that he will sit beside Prerna. All of them were enjoying the dinner. 

Anurag was about to take one of the dish but was stopped by Prerna.

Anurag- “what happened?”

Prerna- “you can’t eat this. It has peanuts and you are allergic to it...” Mohini immediately tasted the dish.

Mohini- “yah...it has peanuts…Onu you should be careful..(she then looked at Prerna) thank you Prerna..” Prerna smiled.

* * * *   

INT: Guest Room

Prerna was sitting on the couch beside the window. All the events, from meeting Anurag in the flight to till today were running in her mind. She was completely lost in her train of thoughts. Anurag came there with two cups of hot coffee and knocked the door but didn’t get any response so he peeped in and saw Prerna lost in her thoughts. He walked towards her without making any sound and took her finger and dipped it in the coffee. Prerna shouted as soon as she felt the warm coffee and gave a deadly look to Anurag.

Prerna- “what is this?” and she stood up from the couch. Anurag laughed a little and kept both the cups on the side table. 

Anurag- “tum khoyi hui thi..so I did this..”

Prerna- “you know.. you are mad”

Anurag- “but not more than you..”

Prerna- “really?”

Anurag- “do you have a doubt?” and slapped her head and ran from there. She started running behind him. And in the process of run and catch, Anurag accidently hit one of the cups of coffee which fell on his hand. Prerna immediately ran towards Anurag and held his hand. She made him sit on the couch.

Prerna- “jala liya na haath” her eyes got filled with tears. 

Anurag- “sab tumhare wajah se hua hai..” 

Prerna- “mere?”

Anurag- “haan...na tum mujhe bhagati..aur na main jalta..”

Prerna- “shurwat tumne ki..and now shut your mouth..” then she went inside the washroom and brought a wet towel and a toothpaste. She then took his hand in hers and whipped up his hand with the towel and then applied toothpaste on the burned area. 

Prerna was about the stand when Anurag held her hand and again made her sit on the couch.

Anurag- “tumhare bachpann ki aadat gayi nahi na..”

Prerna- “konsi?”

Anurag- “tum pehle bhi mujhe lekar itni jaldi panic kar jaati thi..aur aaj bhi..” Prerna looked at Anurag.

Prerna (in her mind)- “pahle toh sirf dosti thi...but ab toh pyaar hai...kaise nahi tension lungi..” Anurag snapped his fingers in front of her face to bring her out of her thoughts.

Anurag- “but ek cheez badal gayi hai..”

Prerna- “kya?”

Anurag- “tum aaj kal pata nahi kahan khoyi rehti ho..”

Prerna- “nahi..aisa nahi hai...vo toh actually thak gayi hun..neend aa rahi hai..”

Anurag- “acha theek hai tum so jao..hum kal baat kartey hai…” then he stood up from the couch and moved towards the door. But he stopped in the mid and turned to Prena.

Anurag- “suno..(Prerna looked at him)...kal tumhe ek special insaan se milwana hai...toh subhah ready ho jaana…”

Prerna- “special insaan?”

Anurag- “vo kal pata chal jayega...good night” and he went from there. 

Prerna went towards the bed and laid down on it. She switched off the light and tried to sleep. But the word special insaan was doing rounds in her mind.
