I always found the old actress a little flat, dull and lifeless. I appreciated Aish's work more. Let me know what you guys think.

Unfair comparison. Production quality, background score, the technology..all of these make a big difference.

But yes Aishwarya was simply amazing.

Yeah, I was talking strictly about the acting. I think all of that prob does add to the performances and make them less flat or dull.

My point is that acting cannot be seen in isolation. Background score, cinematography, camera angles, editing - all of these if done well can really elevate a performance. The older version didn't have any of these, so that's why I felt it was an unfair comparison.

However, like I said, Aishwarya was brilliant with her expressions, dialogue delivery and body language. That cannot be taken away from her. Deserving best actress awardee that year!

Well just on the actress part, it's an insult IMO to even compare the GRAND actress Suchitra Sen with a non-actress screechy voice Miss Aish. Please.

The old one is what I call classic. The new one was not Devdas 😆 . The story was manipulated/changed. Only Madhuri was good in terms of casting, SRK was okay too though he cried a lot. I loved the sets and background of the new one.
