PART 7

I walked up to him and sat beside him, but he flinched. His eyes looked straight and I could see the redness in his eyes though.

"NK, listen?" I started, taking in a much-needed breath but he turned sharply towards me and I could see the hatred.

"Don't dare say anything! Who am I to you anyway? You don't value our friendship anyway" his voice was filled with loathing words.

I couldn't stop my tears either.

"I was gonna tell you about it. It was just yesterday"

"Don't lie, Khushi. I don't care" NK stood up instantly off the rock and walked from there.

"Please NK" I cried.

"Goodbye Khushi. Have fun" with that he walked from my sight.

I sat there for quite a long time, crying. I cried so much that I started to feel weirdly unconscious. I stood up and started to walk when I found Arnav. He walked to me and handed me a bottle of water. I gulped down bouts of it before I collapsed in his arms and let my tears fall free.

"Hey, it is okay. He will come around" Arnav said but those hateful words from NK reverberated in my ears.

We thal hab no theclets' they promised each other long ago before NK marked it as rule #9.

After a terrible school that day with NK not being seen anywhere and people asking her where NK was, I can very well mark this as the worst day of my life. I asked Arnav to take me to his home. I needed to talk to NK once more.

Arnav kept giving me weird glances, however, he didn't speak a word, I felt a little proud seeing him mature enough not interfere in our friendship. More so I respect him.

"Khushi, are you sure you want to go?" he asked me as he waited for my reply watching me through his rearview mirror.

I nodded.

The drive to Raizadas felt scary for the first time in my life. When we reached, I pushed my backpack in Arnav's hands and ran to NK's room. The room was locked from the inside. I have the spare key, correction, only I have the spare key but I decided not to use it.

"NK, I know you are in there. Just listen to me" I stood slumped against the door.

No reply.

"I want to tell you everything. Do you have any idea what happened yesterday? I didn't know how to tell you. But I was gonna tell you. I tried but...well please talk to me"

One whole minute of silence but no reply. I saw Arnav walk up the stairs and came towards me but he stood opposite me assuring me he was there.

"Please NK, do you know how it feels without you," I cried failing terribly not able to control my tears, the thought of NK not being my friend ate me up. I never thought of that. We practically grew up together.

"Please NK"

"f**k off" the voice boomed from the other end. Arnav and I both were startled at his tone. Was he crying?

"NK, open the door or I'll come in," I told him unable to think of anything else.

No reply.

I signaled Arnav to pass my bag and I pulled the spare key. I signaled Arnav to stay there and I unlocked the door and went in shutting the door.

The room was a mess, broken shards, and strewn papers. Not NK at all. He was super hurt because of me. I felt guilt take over me.

"Why did you come here? Get out" he said half-heartedly looking away.

I accidentally twisted my ankle as I moved forward through the mess and I shrieked and NK walked towards me in a split second.

"Khushi, what?"

"Nothing" I felt relief although the pain shot up like hell.

He pulled me to sit on the bed before shouting at me.

"You are a dumb idiot. I hate you. You just cause problems. I hate you. I hate you. I don't want to see your face..." he shouted upon for good two minutes.

Then he cried as he laid his head in my lap. I couldn't help the tears.

"I'm so sorry," I said but he sniffed as held onto me.

"How could you?" he said in a low voice.

"I love him," I said but the next words shocked me.

"I know but how could you not tell me!" he got up as he wiped off his eyes.

"You knew?"

He nodded in agreement.

"I know you better than you know yourself. But how could you not tell me," he said, his eyes sad.

"It was yesterday, NK, I promise" then I narrated the whole story, of course editing the explicit details. NK, reluctant initially, still agreed.

After a while, NK looked at me as we sat in silence and told "Teach that asshole a lesson and control the huge ego" he chuckled. I couldn't help but giggle.

"Shut up NK, he is really good"

"Are we taking sides now?" he smirked.

"Are we cool now?" I asked ignoring his question.

"I'm happy for you. How much ever I hate him I know he is a good guy, so let us be happy with that fact!"

I chuckled.

"Cool," I said like a kid.

As the door opened, Arnav leaned across the door and looked at the state of the room. His eyebrows shot up and looked at NK and then me.

"Are you fine?" he asked looking at both of us.

I nodded and gave him a smile. I wanted to run into his arms and hold him, but I waited.

NK got up and walked slowly till Arnav. I was worried thinking what's up in his head!

"Don't you dare hurt her. You hurt her, you hurt me. Promise?" I couldn't help but smile. I expected Arnav to give some sort of retort, but he looked straight into NK, affectionately and said "I promise"

I couldn't help but feel exhilarated.

Two important people in my life.

"Arnav, no, we are getting late," I tried for the umpteenth time to push him off, but he is in no mood.

"Shh..." he said and pulled me for another kiss. The rain thrashed on the window sills and the breeze brought in freshness.

"NK and Rachna will be here soon," I told him between the kisses.

"I hate him" he groaned as he pulled away.

"My dear husband, my best friend is coming with his wife for the first time after their marriage. So, be nice!" I flicked his nose and he pulled my index finger into his mouth.

I shrieked before pulling his hair.

Thus, we laughed, fought, cooked, slept, had fun *Smirk* and lived a happily ever after.
