The Savior
Tara felt drained. Her eyes were closing but they suddenly opened wide when she saw the disc-like structure where Kalavati had been cracking open a bit. The Vault was opening.
She was fixed on her spot in horror. A black fluid like thing could be seen sipping through the crack on the disc. Her worst fear was becoming a reality. She didn't know what was on the other side of the Vault. A creature, or an army of creatures more powerful and evil than Kalavati? A darkness which could engulf their world? She didn't know how she or any of the men standing with her could fight with them or even knew how to.

It was then that she recalled the spell of energy circle. Tara instantly stood in the stance for it, folding her hands near her chest. She closed her eyes and in a wink moved her right foot in a circle. Everything was moving slowly now. She opened her eyes and stretched her hands, such that the wrists of both were touching each other. At first, nothing happened. Not a single circle appeared on her palms. She panicked. Then she put some more of her power in it and a small orange circle with a pentagram glowed in front of her. She threw it on the Vault causing the crack to make an angry hiss. The fluid seemed to stop for a moment. Tara rejoiced seeing the spell working and conjured another energy circle.
This time she formed a bigger and stronger circle.
She was creating energy circles quickly and each circle was stronger than the previous one. She had covered the Vault with her energy circles. The fluid had now stopped flowing out. The crack was getting closed now.
A smile crept across her face. She just needed a strong energy circle to completely fill the crack that will combine all the other lingering circles to get them to form a layer and cover the Vault forming a seal. She tilted her head up to see the end of total eclipse was near as the moon began to get lighter.
She was feeling dizzy. The text from the book was correct. The spell was draining her power. She summoned the last of her power and started chanting the spell. This time she formed a blue circle. It was like the colour of flame that glows in the core of pure flame. She threw the circle on the Vault.
As soon as the circle touched the Vault, the crack was completely closed and the black fluid was sucked back into the Vault. It was expected by Tara that the crack would fill, what she had not expected was that she would fall. Her world was spinning, she felt every last bit of energy being sucked out of her. Her nose was bleeding. But she was not ready to lose her sight. She watched the energy circles one by one being absorbed in the blue circle that she had cast last.
Tara was lying on the ground, still breathing but her eyes were almost closed. She turned on her side and saw the blue circle being absorbed in the Vault forming a blue glow around it. She looked at the moon which was starting to regain its paler complexion as it slowly came out of the shadow. She was relieved to see the Vault sealed. She turned to see Mrityunjay and found him and others looking at the glowing blue circle.
The golems had crumbled to the ground as soon as Kalavati's ashes had floated in the air, relieving all the knights, Guruji, and the King and leaving them stunned. They were amazed to see the Vault glowing blue. Mrityunjay knew it must have been his Tara's work. He turned towards her with a smile. He was confused seeing her lying on the ground. A lock of hair had slipped out of her ponytail. Then he noticed her bleeding nose. She found his concerned gaze on her and tried to give him a reassuring smile. But before she could smile back at him, her eyes closed. Mrityunjay ran to her and held her in his arms.
"Tara...Tara...open your eyes. See...the Witch is gone. Please, Tara, open your eyes," he pleaded.
She was pale, all colour from her body drained. Her once soft red lips were pale. The bleeding from her nose had stopped but her face was covered with her own blood. She heard his voice but was unable to respond to him. She was falling in a dark abyss. His voice was now sounding more like a distant echo to her. Her breathing was slowing down. "Tara!!! he screamed. After that, she didn't hear his voice. There was complete silence. An ear-piercing silence.
Tara saw herself near a crib in which a baby was sleeping. She was standing near it when a hand snaked around her waist. She turned to see Mrityunjay smiling at her. Suddenly she heard his frantic voice calling her.
She blinked open her eyes and smiled at him. She touched his face with her fingertips and opened her mouth to say something. He smiled with teary eyes at her. But before she could say anything, she again lost her consciousness and went limp in his arms.
"Tara...Tara!!!" he panicked.
Govind came to her, checked her pulse and said, "She is exhausted with the event. She used the energy circle spell which only an experienced practitioner is able to perform and still they get exhausted. She needs to rest. After rest, she will be fine. Remember she will heal herself."
Mrityunjay nodded and scooped Tara up in his arms. Before he could place her on Maria to ride to the cottage, someone from behind him held him by his shoulder. He turned to see who it was. He found the same man who was fighting beside him earlier.
The man who was standing in front of him was nearly the same age as Guruji and was dressed in fine clothes. The man was beaming at him. "Where are you taking her?" the man asked.
Mrityunjay ignored him and turned back to place Tara on Maria. "I am taking her to the cottage," Mrityunjay replied placing her on Maria.
"Let's take her to the Palace where she will be treated properly," he said turning Mrityunjay to face him.
"And who are you to say that? Mrityunjay asked," irritated by this unknown man's delay in aid to Tara.
"Mrityunjay, I...I am your father," he said. Jayraj took a step towards Mrityunjay and hugged him.
Mrityunjay stood there frozen for a moment. But when the words made sense to his ears, he hugged him back. No words were exchanged between them. Tears were pouring from Jayraj's eyes. Mrityunjay's eyes were also welled up with tears but he was torn between his father and his love. He parted himself from Jayraj.
Jayraj understood and said, "We need to take her to the Palace."
Mrityunjay nodded and mounted himself on Maria. He tied Tara's limp body across his body, resting her head on his chest. He kissed on her temple and whispered, "You will be alright love." All the knights, the King and Govind also mounted their horses. They took the shortest path to the city.
