Bipolar is a clinical condition. What happens to Ved is just the result of all the suppression of feelings that he forces himself to go through. His real behavior, a way of living and enjoying life are all suppressed after he is forced to do something he had no intention to and he gets used to this new lifestyle without even realizing that he has changed, or there is something in him inside waiting to come out. Therefore, when Tara very explicitly points out his problem, she ends up hitting a raw nerve and all the suppressed emotions rush out uncontrollably. The realization, frustrating, anger, hurt, and the fact that someone can read him so well. Those who say he had Bipolar disorder just haven't understood the film imo - and there are many out there who didn't.
