Have we ever read a crown princess being married to a commoner in our history, not really. These princesses were not even allowed to rule by themselves without a husband. Very few women were exception to this rule and carved their own path.

A king is able to have multiple wives. If Salim had made Anar just as his mistress or his 3rd or 4th wife, no one would have questioned it. But what he is trying to do is make her the prime, the next empress after his mom. That was the unacceptable part.

Another thing is the expectations. Anar grew up in the palace. She was supposed to know what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. Salim did not really know of the palace manners as he grew up in the war field(as per this serial). So the assumption is she should have educated him of the boundaries, so to speak. She should have known her limitations and stayed there. How did she think that she could become the empress and everyone would just accept it. Also the usual idea is that it is the female who entices and traps a man with her beauty. And that is the whole idea behind holding only Anarkali as responsible.

Very nice analysis

Akbar has no idea that Salim forced her to love him. If she was being forced she should have informed Jodha or Akbar no. why keep quiet if you do not love him?

If a girl keeps quiet and accepts a man following her and harrassing her its assumed she loves him too. Anar kept quiet as Salim abused her to love him. She must have informed Akbar/Jodha or Salima may be and they would reign in Salim

Like you said if a girl is molested or teased world will first ask the girl why you went there? You knew person is not right? You must have worn wrong dress? etc

Same way anarkali is maid she cannot cross her boundaries and love a crown prince or prince. Hamida warned her Ruqaiah warned her she never listened Jodha asked her whats happening bet you and salim she never told her truth for long till jodha forced it out of her.

Another thing Jodha was not allowed to write letters to salim in war field how anarkali broke rules and wrote him letters? If akbar get to know about her letters it would become a big issue. Those letters made salim love her. She broke all rules in harem by writing letters etc

You are right if Salm had made anar his cocubbine Akbar and others would not bother but he wants to marry and make her empress. Empress has many roles she has royal seal, she can give royal decree, lead army in war if needed etc the princess would be educated enough to do all that not a maid. They prefer a princess hence. Nur jahan was highly educated could go to war and lead army do hunting etc but she was a ministers daughter a commoner so no one liked her in court. Imagine if anar becomes empress who will respect her in court or outside? And how she will make all decisions of empress?

Akbar had many maids but they were cocubbines not his legal wife or an empress or princess postion. He even had kids with them but they cannot be made Maharani or empress. Same for other emperors too they all had maids and cocubbines.

I doubt Akbar would agree to make anarkali 4th wife etc. He only would agree to keep her as maid in salim harem/house thats all. Akbar wanted only royal princess as Salims wife or highly placed mughal peoples daughters(related to him) not anyone else. He would not allow salim to marry his milk brothers daughter(Akbars milk brother) only Sahib jamal how he will allow a maid? Anyways later on Salim married Sahb jamal after lot of persuing Akbar. If Akbar not allowing salim to marry his milk brother daughter(who is like brother to Akbar) how he will allow anarkali to become Salim wife highly impossible.

Your are absolutely right in what you have written. There is some additional things that I would like to add. The infighting was not just a part of Mughal dynasty, but was part of every dynasty that ever ruled India. The moment there was more than one person making a claim for the throne, the infighting began. Ans as you said not everyone were able to handle the stress of these politics.

Another major thing is heart vs mind. Any member of the royal family had no right to heart, especially in terms of personal life. They could use the heart for the welfare of the country and public. Like a lot of Akbar's laws. His abolishing of sectarian tax on non-muslims made him a popular king. This decision was made by him as much with heart as his mind. He made several such decisions which were not only from mind, but also from heart and earned him the trust and loyalty of the locals. He was one of the first Mughal king to have religious tolerance towards other religions.

But they could not use the same heart towards their own personal lives. They couldn't really have the focus only on their heart which gave happiness only to them. Most part of their lives were dedicated towards being that leader to the mass and rule the kingdom. And heart had very little place in politics. They had to lead a public life where they had to project an image of perfection no matter what they felt. They had to accept certain things while rejecting some others despite their inclinations. And not everyone was ready to give up on their heart as some were able to.

Both Salim and Mann are shown to be people who do things based more on heart than mind. For him, it was all about him first and then others. It is true that he was considerate, but his consideration was only towards those his heart considered family. His heart considered Anar as his friend and then lover, so her class didn't matter. He never really learnt to reign in his heart for the "greater good". His heart was not capable of handling the politics.

I agree with your statement about mind over heart!! I think Akbar stated this a few times during conversations with both Salim and Jodha .. he was always an emperor bound by his commitments/ideals ..major root cause of the bhagavat and destruction!!
