It's not social media but WOM that ruins a movie and when most reviews are negative, people don't feel like going and watching the movie. In today's world, IMDB ratings and reviews are playing a very important role in the BO numbers and I feel it's good to a certain extent. People shouldn't waste their money on movies that aren't worth watching just because it has a big celeb or big banner.
