Thank you Dear Inlieu for such sweet praises! ❤️ While being such a wonderful writer yourself, if you appreciate my post, then it really becomes a motivation! I will definitely write more if the content allows. Again, thanks a lot for responding! I loved your response thoroughly! It added more depth into that scene as well as in the understanding I had for the relation between Alexander and Roxanne!
I also feel that he will, FINALLY, declare the war now so that we can also let out a sigh of relief! 😔He himself will find a way to cross the Jhelum, a task, for which he had chosen Cleitus! It will again be an emotional moment for him! Rohit will definitely fulfill your wish to see a change in Alexander's demeanor after he went through this turmoil.😉
Roxanne, as you said, was really his silent strength, who just by her close presence, managed to calm down his agressiveness. Well said, sometimes just words aren't enough, and Roxanne understands that very well to positively implement it in her handling of Alexander. She manages to turn the violent storm inside him into a peaceful drizzle with her gentle touch. His eyes looked tender and close to tears as he turned his head away from her before getting disbalanced. His grief drizzled out and he expressed his real state of mind during the unfortunate incident, that he had lost control on his anger and he deeply regetted it. He also shared his helplessness that he cannot undo what has already happened. The point to be noted here is that, he didn't bare this side of his grief before and he just kept on blaming himself. But after Roxanne's sincere effort, she really was able to pull out the last thread of the much needed confession, which he could not bring out before! Finally, he had let out every single emotion which was bothering him and that was why he calmed down and went with the flow when she tried to lay him.
I completely agree that he really was suprised and intrigued by her concern towards him when she held his hand and I have also mentioned this in my post. I loved your description of their respective state of minds at that very moment! 😃
You have given a new special touch by adding their dynamics as a couple! Earlier, we were only talking about their individual presence! It was probably this couple feeling which made Alexander cross the line, to reach out to her physically, for getting that comfort which her physical presence offered!
I simply loved these paragraphs! You really hold a very deep understanding of character psychology! 👏👏👏
It was important for him to hear that she needed him, for it gave him a sense of self-worth outside of being a king. She did not elaborate on how exactly but the subliminal message was that she needed him as a partner, as woman needs her husband and lover. He wanted to shrug off the title and responsibilities of being king but in that instance he was everything to her, as-is, unmasked - she did not need anything else but just him. She gave him the sense of the two of them being in a cocoon, that in those moments there was only the two of them in their own world and space, and nothing else mattered. This is the kind of feeling that spouses share, that you cannot get from anyone else in the world, and it did much to give him hope of a different kind, though he hadn't quite put his finger on it.
He had an almost questioning look as he searched the depths of her eyes, as if seeing her in a different light for the first time. Until then, he had only loved her from a distance, his emotions unrequited, his hopes of winning her love abandoned. Feeling the change in her made him wonder as to what had triggered it - had he been sober he would have definitely explored this moment and angle further. I do hope he will remember it when he wakes up.
Before leaving Taxila to rescue his mother, there was a farewell scene in which they seemed to have reached a truce of sorts, but he did not know how far her understanding went. Her reaction to his marriage with Barsine and now her refusal to leave him alone to destroy himself was slowly adding up. Unlike the others, she was not expecting or looking for the king. She was focused solely on her husband and his needs as a human being. It is also this realization of the change in dynamics between them that allowed him to let go a little and let her take care of him without worrying about consequences or his image at that point. I remembered the scene where he had refused Hephaestion's offer to help him stand up after the near-drowning scene and yesterday's scene was in stark contrast to that.
Sony Alexander has always had people around who love and respect him. They are loyal to him and would die for him, but all this has been as a queen. Hephaestion has been his brother and closest friend, Olympias has been his strength, his guide, and his inspiration. In all this, he has never experienced the love and comfort of the soulmate kind, which one can only get from one's spouse or lover. With Roxanne's gesture he was getting a glimpse into what such a love could mean and feel like. It is all the more tragic that he would only start to experience this towards the end of his very short life.
This scene was really beautiful and depicted the aesthetic side of love which is far far far superior to just physical intimacy, which is fondly shown as love between other couples in Indian daily soaps! Presence of such a scene here is an exception! As @Vicariously said that, what made this scene even more beautiful was that, Alexander and Roxanne didn't actually hug!
