If he is so sure of everything the story will wrap up.At this point it makes sense that he is confused also because it made zero sense in the first place from Kunal.Karma being karma will have to give Nandini insecurity for what she did to Mauli.This can come only by the indecisiveness of Kunal.

So shakti confirmed all of our theories that kunal never really thought it through and had never even thought about leaving mauli. This confusion and not even having thought about leaving mauli shows that he isn't out of love with mauli the way he is thinking, but completely lost and confused as to what he wants.
