In an interview with News18, Tanushree opened up about being sexually harassed on the sets of the film Horn Ok Please. In Hollywood, many actors have come forth and have named and shamed producers and actors who have sexually harassed them. The #MeToo movement became a global phenomenon and while many are wondering when Bollywood actors will speak out openly, Tanushree Dutta said in an interview that the same people who maintained silence when she spoke about harassment are today talking about women empowerment.
Tanushree said in the interview that an actor on the sets of the film tried to intimidate her, grabbed her by the arms and pushed her around. She also said that the actor wanted to do an intimate sequence with her. She said that the actor was not supposed to be a part of the song but still got his way. Tanushree recounted how she felt cornered as she protested against doing that intimate step with the actor. Tanushree did not name the actor. When Tanushree turned down his advances, he allegedly called members of a political party who came and broke her car.
She said, "The thing is that our country has become so hypocritical, and people constantly ask why #MeToo movement is not happening in India, it won't happen unless and until you'll acknowledge what happened with me in 2008, further adding, "The #MeToo happened in Hollywood a year or two back, but in India it happened several years ago. I was probably one of the first people in the history of this country in the media field to speak up and stand up. Everybody saw what happened but the memory and the popular perception of it is that Tanushree Dutta spoke up against harassment and then she was no more.
