disclosure: am not on any team - nandini, mouli or kunal. just here for the train wreck factor.

notes: been wanting to post this for a while but then the forum is so serious as we have been discussing the characters. so this post is those who love such details. please don't bring the story or how you feel about the characters (negative or positive) as this is only about clothes, style and other mundane details! ๐Ÿ˜Š

so I started watching silsila rather randomly. finished watching bepannah and basically didn't switch the tv off and the only reason I continued to watch silsila was the sets! ๐Ÿ˜† hahahaha... I had no idea what was happening (and didn't care either) but I really liked mouli's house. kekeke.. the lines were clean, very modern and so colourful! it felt very much in tune with her personality as well as her sense of style. and her kurtas and accessories were so perfect for a working woman kind of style.. and even kunal was so well dressed. nandini's blouses were interesting and what I found entertaining was the different colours of the blouses with the sarees. these were not combinations I would have thought of and so kept it in my mental library for reference later! ๐Ÿ˜† hahhahah...

and I also liked how nandini's house seemed a reflection of her -- the style was quite ethinic, more close together? but really colourful and well put.

the weird details that made me laugh -- so during the alter ego scene, was really amused that she seemed to sitting in a balcony with trees and grass. I was really confused because I thought that she lived on some top floor and not on ground floor. (I tend to watch half asleep and so I wasn't sure).. and then I thought, maybe it is a rooftop garden types? kekekek...

during mouli's brother-in-law wedding, so mouli's pink skirt was so pretty! and even nandini's skirt was fantastic but then they were actually wearing similar dupatas! pretty much the same flower print but different colours. ๐Ÿ˜† kekekek., immediately thought -- did they shop together? and to top it off, they were wearing the same exact jewelry. I was like "what??".. but then the mom shows up and she is also wearing same jewelry. hahahaha... and to top it off, her saree also had those huge flowers print -- so it made me think the stylist just raided the same section of the fabric shop. kekekek...

and in all the scenes that they show kunal and nandini or kunal and mouli put their feet forward, immediately think "ooh kunal has nice feet! pedicure?..would guys do pedicure before a scene like that?" ๐Ÿ˜†

the other detail that keeps sticking out is how mumbai doesn't seem as crowded. in other serials, mumbai comes across as super crowded and they are always stuck in traffic. not sure where this serial is being filmed but there is hardly any traffic and there's actually greenery outside the window on the drives. I keep thinking "there's trees? green field type places??" are they filming outside mumbai? suburbs?" even the bus stop/confession scene -- have never seen a bus stop that had such less crowd! hahahaha.. guess it was a set?

actually find kunal a pretty sharp dresser and am really glad that he seems to cut his hair! hahahha... was wondering if it is a colours channel thing because the guy in roop (end up catching the last few minutes as I wait for bepannah) is in major need of a haircut! ugh. every time I see him, I am like "please get that man to a hair salon!" ๐Ÿ˜†

however, am sort of perplexed by the use of pink in all the pivotal scenes in this drama. so the confession scene at bus stop -- he was wearing pink suit while she was wearing blue saree with pink blouse. actually found her combo very interesting and useful for future reference. hahahha.. and then in other passion scene, again, he is wearing pink kurta (which was matching with mouli's skirt) and nandini ends up wearing baby pink saree...

so here's a question -- at least this hasn't stuck out to me as such in other serials (probably because the guys are super boring in terms of style! hahahha...) but here there seems to be a fair amount of colour co-ordination with all the three characters. is it deliberate? usually in movies and songs, it is quite common and it creates a sense of colour unison and is visually pleasing. so is it simply a cinematography kind of angle? do stylists in serials get a memo that they need to colour coordinate for important scenes? anyone have any ideas?

I don't bother otherwise but lately I am hating the colour coordination . And the three of them , whenever they are together, standing or walking , seems like the makers are trying to give an impression of a mythological photo..ganpati bappa with riddhi and siddhi. Hey bhagwan! I wish I could post the pictures

When we are talking about clothes tell me who's paying for Nandini's dresses? She didn't go back to Rajdeep's place to get her clothes, she sold her mother's jewelry to pay down payment of her house, how is she always dressed in designer Saree and heavy jewelry?

kekekek... it does make you wonder but the color co-ordination even seems to extend to the other family members which just makes me laugh. ๐Ÿ˜† who would co-ordinate mouli's mom with these 3? even the dadi wearing something a bit matchy matchy. it is like all of them get one standard colour palette and they all have to choose clothes within them.

I love all the dresses of Mauli & Nandi. For Nandini i love all the colors except tat weird brown thingy she wore in Goa. I esp loved tat Green & Black combo. I dint like any1's costumes on the day of Mauli's bro's wedding. Everything frm the dresses 2 the makeup 2 the jewellery were ott.

I absolutely hate everything tat Kunal wears & no tats got nothing 2 do with the character. I hate the colors he wears & his lipstick. I think initially his dresses were gud. Now its all pink, purple etc which i hate on men ๐Ÿคข Honestly I find Rajdeep better dressed & better looking. Again tis purely based on the dresses & not the characters.

I have always had a problem with this over-glamorization of everything. It is a flaw with almost all the Hindi shows, except for maybe Crime Petrol and Saavdhan India?๐Ÿ˜† I understand that some sort of visual appeal is required. But then they are already casting super good looking actors. I am sure they wouldn't look all that bad with a little less make-up ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
When they design the look of the characters, shouldn't they be keeping in mind the personality, lifestyle and the situation in life of these characters? I can't really relate to any of the leads' clothes except for may be Mauli's, even then, not all the time.

Kunal's stylishly cut suits somehow doesn't go with the personality and profession of his character. A doctor who wants to treat the poor and who hates working for these five-star, boutique type hospitals, strutting about in hot, stylish suits.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

In Nandini's case again, her extremely made up look, neither goes with her financial situation in life nor her mental state. She is dressed elegantly and impeccably in every frame, with not a hair our of place, doesn't matter whether she is sitting at home/cooking/cleaning or going out. It takes away from the overall feel of her character. I would have much preferred to see her in simple suits and saris, with her lovely curly hair. Dhrashti would have looked so beautiful and I would have related to her character better.

Baaki, Mumbai does look like a green haven and it makes me want to live in a place like that.

kekekek... rajdeep is a good looking bloke and definitely nice style. so much so that it sometimes distracts me from his villainness. ๐Ÿ˜† hahahaah... what I think is interesting is that everything is so bright in this show in terms of style including the villain. am so used to guy villains usually dressing in all black or some dour colour to signify their villainness... hahahaha...

EDKV was gud tat way. The FL Nikita wore nice casual dresses which normal ppl ll wear daily for work. Looked quite nice & elegant.

IPK3 takes the cake for being by far the worst in terms of costumes. 50% of my episode Live updates used 2 be just to wax eloquent on those monstrosities on screen. I felt for all the actors in that show... The designer had a supari on her name & the forum waasis were ready to pool money to get her kidnapped ๐Ÿ˜†

it is funny because am always amazed at how people and sets look so ordinary in savdaan india or crime patrol. ๐Ÿคฃ we really do get spoiled by serials ... yea kunal doesnt look like any doctor and neither does mouli actually -- most doctors I see are very practical dressers and almost look haphazard after the long hours. but it is indian television! no real style allowed!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ...

and if we have to talk real, it amuses me how nandini cooks with her hair down -- it is already ridiculously hot in the kitchen and I am sweating buckets whenever I cook that I just push my hair from my face into a pony or something ๐Ÿ˜† ...
