Apart from fear from cats (which even Napolean had), there two other surprising facts I have come across. One is that Alexander had heterochromia, hence his one eye was blue and other brown.

Other one is that though he was not blonde and had light brown hair he used to dye it with saffron everyday, which was worth more than gold at that time!

I don't know where it is said that he was bad at studies, because he is prevalent for his zeal in various philosophies. Several authors say that he discussed and often compared Greek and eastern philosophies and theories.
