Aanchal and Jaya - two complete strangers meet at the bus stop in Pune when they are headed for different destinations in Mumbai. Aanchal is going to Mumbai to get US Visa for studies abroad and Jaya is going to meet her parents in Mumbai after many years . When Jaya gets to know that Aanchal's bus is delayed and she might miss the chance of going to US because of that , she willingly offers her bus ticket to her. Little do they know that they are not just exchanging the bus tickets but exchanging their destinies as well. Aanchal gets the US visa , but the bus Jaya is travelling in on Aanchal's ticket meets up with an accident and Jaya dies in the tragedy.

Unknown to this tragedy a thankful Aanchal prepares to go to US while Jaya 's family mourns her death. Jaya's father Ramakant blames her husband Siddharth and his family for not taking good care of his daughter . As its is their marriage took place without his consent and he could never forgive or accept Siddharth. Jaya's family decides to not tell her three small kids as the youngest one has hole in his heart and he might not be able to understand or face the tragic loss of his mother.

Aanchal gets to know about Jaya's death at the airport while leaving for US and starts blaming herself for her death. Though she goes to US , she is not able to concentrate on her studies . The eldest son of Jaya and Siddharth ? Ayush sees the obituary ad of his mother in the newspaper placed by his wicked aunt Chanchal and gets to know the truth but decides to keep quiet about it. He sees his younger brother and sister getting badly treated by his aunt Chanchal and grandmother Lalita and the kids run away from home to go to their Nana's house in Mumbai.

Meanwhile Aanchal has come back for a two week's break after completing her trimester and is a changed person. The vivacious , chirpy Aanchal has now become a quiet , sad girl and her family comprising of her Mama , Mami and their son Manu are quick to notice that. They get confused and are not able to figure out the reason of this sudden transformation in her . Her Mami sends Aanchal to Shirdi hoping that Sai baba darshan will bring peace and happiness to her but as the destiny would have it Aanchal meets the lost kids on the bus as they are being thrown out of the bus by the conductor for not having the money to buy the tickets . Not knowing who they are she helps them and decides to take them back home back to their home promising them that she would get their mother back. But Aanchal is in for a major shock as she gets to know that the kids who had run away from home to meet their mother are actually the kids of the same woman who died helping her .

Aanchal is heartbroken when she sees the trauma and agony the three motherless kids are going through because of her and decides to do something for them. She agrees to become their tuition teacher and spend as much time as possible with them. Kids misunderstand Aanchal and feel cheated,. They think that she helped them out to get the job of the tuition teacher and instead of fulfilling her promise of getting their mother back she has decides to teach them.

Aanchal meet up with a lot of resistance from the kids as well as the wicked grandmother Lailta and aunt Chanchal but decides to keep going . She has made a silent promise to Jaya that she will bring the sunshine back in the lives of her three kids and she wants to fulfill the promise at any cost - even if it means sacrificing her dreams and ambitions and her career.

When Chanchal sees Dheeraj and Aanchal's closeness she misunderstands and feels insecure. She manipulates the sitn and fires Aanchal, claiming that she will take care of the kids herself. Chanchal has taken over the mantle of taking care of the kids but she does not like taking care of them at all. One day she gets extremely irritated with Juhi and Sachin and tells them that their mother is dead. Juhi is shocked after getting to know that her mother has been dead for such a long time. Aanchal meanwhile is missing the kids around her and is trying to fill the emptiness around her. On her mami?s insistence she goes for a lunch with Sudeep but is shocked to see his behaviour with the waiter at the restaurant. She realises that both of them have extremely different temperament.

Chanchal is chasing her son Vicky to eat food. Sachin comes to her asking her for some food. Chanchal punishes Sachin and asks him to stand in the scorching sun with his hands up. Unable to take the heat and exhaustion the little boy who already has a hole in his heart faints and collapses on the ground. Sachin is taken to the hospital and Aanchal donates blood to him. The bond between them becomes stronger due to this. Sudip is worried abt Aanchal's closeness to Sidharth and gets more worried when he learns Sidh is a widower. Jaya?s father comes to the hospital to take the kids with him. Anchal donates blood to Sachin and saves his life. Mami gives her permission to teach the kids. Siddharth decides that he will not let Ramakant take his kids to Mumbai. When the kids are forced to leave, Anchal intervenes. Ramakant breaks all ties with the family when the kids refuse to leave. Siddharth reveals to Anchal that Jaya's parents had never accepted him as their SIL and that all this was merely an outburst of that hatred.

The kids grow more closer to Aanchal esp Ayush. Aanchal completes Jaya's poem that she had left half done. Ayush agrees to recite that poem for the competition. Chanchal is upset at all this and feels that Aanchal is somehow trying to take Jaya's place. Aanchal's attachment to the children upsets Sudeep and his disturbing attitude makes Aanchal doubt his sincerity as doctor to Sachin. Sudeep confronts Anchal who admits that she is more that a teacher to the kids. He shares this with Anchal's family who ask her about it. Anchal breaks the truth to them abt how she was partly responsible for taking away the kids' mother. Mami-Mama empathize with what Anchal is going thru and extend their support.

Ayush wins the competition and thanks Anchal for all her help; Anchal is happy to see Ayush's attitude soften. Chanchal and Lalita assume that Anchal-Sid are having an affair and set out to get proofs to expose them, but in vain. Hari and Dheeraj taunt them for spreading such lies. Seeing Sudeep constantly meddling in Anchal's affairs, Mami treats Sudeep coldly, and he decides to find another way to win Anchal's love. Chanchal and Lalita learn of Sid's meeting with Anchal, which is actually a meeting regd work, they presume its something more and decide to follow them. But Dheeraj puts a damper on their plan. Juhi, Sachin and Ayush miss their mom and Siddharth does everything possible to make them happy with the help of Anchal.

Anchal and Siddharth's trip leaves their families in knots wondering whether there is something going on b/w them. Lalita and Chanchal are worried about Aanchal becoming an integral part of their business which wud mean less share for them. To avoid this, Lalita decides to take control of the financial matters of their business. Mami and Mama get doubtful about Sudeep's intentions towards Siddharth and Aanchal being together.Sudeep plans a big surprise for Anchal, which worries Mami. Siddharth finds out what his family thinks abt him and Anchal and he clears their doubts and tells them that he is happy with Jaya's memories and Anchal is just his kids' teacher. Lalita is unsucessful handling the company's finances and gives up on it.

Siddharth turns down Anchal's request to set up Manu's visit to the factory for his project work. But anonymously he sets up the visit. The children and Dheeraj prepare to throw a surprise birthday party for Anchal which she learns abt and is very touched by it. Back at her house too, Sudip and her family are planning to throw her a surprise party, so they do not wish her on the morning of her birthday and she is hurt assuming they forgot her birthday. She attends the kid's party, there Sachin insists on calling her Teacher Maa, which troubles everyone. Anchal goes home and is surprised by Sudip's party.

Anchal tells Sachin to call her Teacher Maa only in secret. Anchal and Sid join in for Juhi's parents day. Sudip warns Mamiji abt Anchal's growing closeness to Sid. Mamiji is very troubled by this. Chanchal finds a pic of Anchal falling down and Sid catching her in his arms from parents day on the notice board at school.

When she goes to visit Ramakant in Mumbai, she brings along the pic with her, and Ramakant finds it. He's furious and calls the kids to Mumbai. They reach there, unknown to the fact that Ramakant plans to keep them there forever. Sidharth finds out Ramakant's intentions and plans on going to Mumbai, Dheeraj tells Anchal abt it, and after Sachin's pleas, she agrees. Sid and Anchal go together to get the kids, and when Ramakant begins humiliating Sid... Anchal screams out that they are getting married, to persuade Ramakant. This manages to convince Ramakant to let the kids go with them, so they leave. They all get back to Pune and Hari is very excited with the news of Anchal-Sid marriage, altho Sid and Dhiraj decide to tell the real truth that they arn't getting married and this was to convince RK to send the kids back home. But they are not able to tell him cuz of Lalita and Chanchal who are suspicious of this whole marriage thing.

Anchal's mama gets the news that his house will be auctioned if he does not pay his debts and this endangers his health. He goes into a cardiac arrest, but Sid finds him on time and gets help. He even pays off their debts. Anchal and her family are deeply grateful for all this. Anchal learns Sudeep's true colors and is disgusted that he did not help her mama just cuz he was mad at her. Sudeep learns abt Anchal-Sid wedding plans and goes beserk. He vows that is he can't get Anchal no one can.

Oneday, circumstances lead Sid and Anchal to the bus stop where he last saw Jaya. The place brings back all the memories of Jaya back to Anchal. She sees Sid blaming himself for Jaya's death and she reveals that she was the reason Jaya was in that fateful bus. This revelation leaves Sid in a state of shock, although he doesnt hold Anchal accountable but frees her from the responsibilities of teaching his kids. Sudeep tries uses every methods and means to get Anchal thru Sid and he succeeds when Sid urges Anchal to move on with her life by getting married to Sudeep. She agrees for Sid's sake. But everything changes on the day of Sudeep-Anchal's engagement when Sachin barges in pleading Anchal not to go thru with it and Sudeep slaps him foor it. Anchal breaks off all relations with Sudeep who ends up more bitter and furious than ever, and he vows to make Anchal and her family pay for this humliliation. He hires goons to attack Anchal but Sid saves her from them.

Sudip tries everything to get Anchal, but to no avail'. Anchal only grew closer to Sid and his kids and farther away from him. Anchal and Sid decide to get married for the kids, but Anchal's mami is against this and so are Chanchal and Lalita. The 3 of them throw barriers on Sid-Anchal's path, but they emerge out of them successfully and end up getting married with the blessings of their elders. Ayush is upset that his dad has replaced his mom with Anchal. He doesn't leave any chance in expressing his displeasure with Anchal. On Jaya's first death anniversary, Bharti gets out of her coma and gets all better. She insists on meeting Anchal, who comes to visit her with the whole Tyagi family. Bharti feels Jaya's presence in Anchal and blesses her. RK overhears Anchal confide in Bharti abt being responsible for Jaya's death, and that's when all hell breaks loose. He throws Anchal and the whole Tyagi family out and ignores Bharti's pleas. Heartbroken by all this, Bharti has a massive cardiac arrest and dies in RK's arms. This devastates the whole family, and Juhi and Ayush blame Anchal for killing their mom as well as their grandma, but Sachin stands by Anchal thru it all. When Chanchal and Lalita insist that Anchal leave their house, Sid chooses to leave as well and makes Dhiraj the head of their business. Juhi and Ayush refuse to join them, so they leave with Sachin. They move into a small house. All this leaves Sid disturbed which drives him into making a wrong business decision thus causing their business huge losses.

Sid sells off his shares to his competitor, Mr. Adhikari and ends up working for his own company like the other employees there. But amidst this happiness knocks on their door when Anchal gets pregnant. Sid is overwhelmed with joy, but Anchal wants to abort the baby for the sake of Sachin, Juhi and Ayush's happiness, but they are pleasantly surprised when Sachin is excited with the news. Anchal is relieved and decides to have the baby. Dhiraj and Hari are upset seeing Sid in such a financial crisis and offers to take care of Sachin, and Anchal too agrees that Sachin's upbringing and future would be secure if he lives with Dhiraj and the family. Sachin respects Anchal's decision and lives with the family, but he and Anchal miss each other a lot and finally they decide that Sachin be sent back to Anchal where he is most happy. One day, on his way back from school, Sachin is run over by a car, and he suffers multiple fractures in his legs thus leaving him handicapped and in a wheel chair. Lalita and Chanchal accuse Anchal for neglecting Sachin and only caring for her own baby. Sachin is horrified seeing everyone blaming Anchal for his condition and he decides to move out and go live in the Tyagi house, in order to keep Anchal from being blamed and yelled at cuz of him. He behaves coldly towards Anchal so that she agrees to let him go. Anchal gets a designing contract which could help her make crores of money, and she begins work on it.

Months pass by and Anchal delivers a healthy baby boy, whom they name Jai. But everyone's happiness is short lived when Anchal announces that her mama-mami take Jai with them and she vows never to see him till Juhi, Ayush and Sachin accept her as their mother. Hari and Dhiraj feel that they are equally to be blamed for the sacrifices Anchal has made for the family. They finally decide to take matter into their hands and they bring Sid and Anchal back home. Sachin is overjoyed having Anchal back and the misunderstandings b/w them are cleared when Anchal learns the real reason Sachin left her months ago. Sid, Anchal and Sachin are glad to be back with each other, but Juhi and Ayush are not. Sachin's doc gives the family good news that his fractures have healed and that he will walk again if he is encouraged constantly. Anchal promises Sachin that he will walk again. She works at making him walk, but due to the psychological trauma after the accident, he can't. She then strategically makes a scenario where she is going to fall off the stairs and he gets off his wheel chair to save her, thus curing Sachin completely. All are surprised and excited to see Sachin walk again, esp. Juhi and Ayush. But they still behave distantly with Anchal, although they are unsure abt their feelings now. That's when Juhi dreams of Jaya coming to her and explaining that she has come back to them in Anchal's disguise and to love her back as much as she loves them. Juhi is left confused after this, so she shares this with Ayush who is speechless wondering how he truly feels abt this. There at work, when Mr. Adhikari learns of Sid reuniting back with his family, he schemes and cleverly makes Dhiraj sign away his share and his house to him, so that he can be the sole owner of the company and the house. Dhiraj and Sid are in shock when they realize that they have been duped!!

Anchal's designs are accepted by the American Fashion Academy, and she recieves 1 crore rs for them. She uses that to get back their company and house back from Adhikari. Lalita and Chanchal finally realize how good Anchal really is and regret their prior actions to her. They apologize to her. Juhi and Ayush too regret their behavior towards Anchal and realize that Anchal loves them like their own mom. The family are glad to be together and happy, and arrange a party to celebrate. There, Mama-Mami bring Jai... and Ayush reunites Jai with Anchal. RK, Ravi, n Rekha also arrive at the party to apologize to Anchal. After all the misunderstandings are cleared, the entire family reunite and live happily ever after while Jaya looks from above the clouds down to her family and blesses them with a goodbye.
