Karan Johar: I Requested Imtiaz Ali to Cast Alia Bhatt in Highway
Karan Johar has said that he was the one who requested ace director Imtiaz Ali to cast Alia Bhatt in his road movie "Highway. The character played by Alia Bhatt required a mature performance and Alia was able to deliver it bang on. She did a stupendous job in the movie Highway and was cast opposite Randeep Hooda in the movie.

Alia Bhatt is the Daughter of popular yesteryear director Mahesh Bhatt. She was introduced in movies as a female lead by none other than Karan Johar in his directorial venture "Student of the Year in 2012. The movie also was a launching pad for heartthrobs Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, the son of ace humor film director David Dhawan. Karan Johar did not work much on these actors to sharpen their acting skills for the movie Student of the Year as he wanted them to be raw.
Karan says that he was pretty happy that popular director Imtiaz Ali took Alia Bhatt for the role in Highway as he feels that it is her best role essayed in a movie till date. He said that he had vouched for Alia to Imtiaz.
When Karan told about Alia to Imtiaz, he was not so sure about her acting skills. But, Karan assured him that she has what it takes to do the lead role in the movie Highway. Karan said this on the sidelines of the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji.
Karan Johar, the host of the popular "Koffee with Karan show that airs on Star World said that Alia was very happy when she got the script of Highway' and also called him up to say that she was quite excited doping this film. "Alia had called me to tell that she got a script from Imtiaz for his next project. She told me she is there in every page of the script and she is playing the main lead. I told her to do it, Karan said.
After Highway, Ali Bhatt gave two back to back hits in Karan Johar produced movies "2 States and "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Both these movies were helmed by new directors. Karan Johar said that he was very much in favor of collaboration in Bollywood as he sees that this is the way forward for Bollywood now. He is happy to give opportunities to budding directors and says that sometimes they might be having the screenplay, but not the resource to convert it into a movie. He says that he believes in the phenomenon of when in doubt collaborate.
