So I checked his Wiki page.
Munna bhai movies were great. I have no complaints with them.
3 Idiots- definitely my fav movie out of the lot- but heavily inspired from Chetan Bhagat's novel 5 point someone. Funnily I read the novel way before the movie released and I liked the movie more than his novel coz it dealt with additional issues and tbh it was funnier though thapads to Vidhu Vinod chopra for not accepting that it was an adaptation coz movie had same jokes too from the novel and not just scenarios.
PK- This is where the problem started imo. PK was a khichdi. People who made the movie OMG knew exactly what to do with a theme like that, problem isn't about comedy, OMG also had it but about the treatment, don't reduce the element of seriousness to a joke, Heck! I still don't know why did he keep a one sided love track between PK and Anushka. That's just dumb.
As for Sanju, everybody knows it is not a movie but an advertisement campaign for Sanjay Dutt. Raju Hirani's worst imo. Raju Hirani is famous for that excellent repeat value in his movies which he tried to put in this movie too with gags like Ghapaghap like you mentioned but unfortunately, atleast in my case, it didn't work.
Anyway, imo, It's okay to use comedy as a tool to talk about serious issues for example Hannah Gadsby's Nannette on Netflix, such a tight powerful set but it is not okay to reduce to jokes which Hirani kinda did in his previous 2 movies.
