so I have been watching bepannah only for a month or so but while I was zipping through all the initial episodes on voot, one of the things that struck is the impact of money on marriage and relationships. since it has been on my mind for a while now, thought I would post about it.
1. money can break down a marriage. yash and zoya's marriage disintegrates on large part because of money. yash is not able to communicate his financial situation and instead ends up confiding in pooja. that later leads to more closeness and finally affair. this is actually quite accurate in real life. did you know that a research study showed that one of the top reasons for a marriage breaking down is clashes over money? according to relationship experts, couples need to talk about how they are going to spend money, their priorities etc and come to a consensus. unfortunately, it is not something people are aware about and so many like zoya 1.0 have this la la land assumption that love will take care of everything and so don't actually talk to their spouse about this boring topic of money.
2. not being financial independent can make us crazy! look at mahi's stupid schemes. part of it was because she had no money of her own and so was angry at herself and the world. if sakshi had money, would she have leeched off aditya and stayed in that house even after pooja's death? lot of people plan for their children's education, their marriage but fail when it comes to saving for their own retirement. they just assume that the children will take care of them but this leads to lots of stress and in some cases, the families breaking apart. so lesson, always try to be financially independent and plan wisely!
3. money allows us to restart life. zoya was totally broken but one reason, she was able to restart and rebuild her life so quickly was because of waseem. assuming that he is some sort of businessman or something but he was wise in that he bought the house and put it in zoya's name. this means that zoya was able to stay in mumbai in a flat that actually belongs to her. if waseem had let yash put it in his name, then mahi and her mom would have pounced on the flat. even though it was zoya's money, they would never have given it to her.
also waseem put aside money for her and so she is able to re-start zosh events without debt and be financially independent. did waseem know that yash was no good and so was prepared for something to happen? maybe his father antenna was working overtime?
in real life, in addition to starting over, financial stress is a huge challenge. unfortunately, many women don't have money on their own and it is not like parents are able to support them either... so having that kitty and financial independence to make your own decisions is a must to face whatever challenges life throws at us...
so just some random thoughts about money that struck me while watching bepannah...
