Even though I often disagree with them I love Rahul Desai and Rajeev Masand. I love,
love,
love Rahul because unlike all the other critics in the industry today he is young, so it's a fresh perspective. He hangs out at the international movie festivals. He is kind of a movie snob. He is mean and looks like a loner who only watches movies during the day and stays up all night to write about it in his dungeon. I know no one paid him to lie because I don't think anyone knows him. If a movie pleases him then I sit up straight because I know it had to have something good. I love that he can say things like this, Race 3 review...
Its plot is the cinematic equivalent of a blood clot, and its box-office performance is expected to financially boost a film industry that has become the personal playground (and footpath) of its ageing superstar. Khan, lovingly known as Bhai' to his unfortunate fans, is so cocksure of his logic-defying fame that he has finally dropped all pretense as an actor and become a ventriloquist on screen his lips are so paralyzed that his voice always appears to be coming from somewhere else (the dictionary definition: "typically from the dummy of the person or an animal).I also like Rajeev because he is a harsh critic but not malicious, never malicious, I like his sense of humor and I think he knows what he is talking about when it comes to Bollywood. And most of all what I love about Rajeev is, he hates commercial bollywood trash the same way I hate commercial trash. I want my critics to be passionate about Bollywood, knowledgeable and strict. If I wanted ordinary people's opinions then I can read imdb, twitter or even I-F's "reviews".
I like Anupama because I think what she has done with Film Companion is wonderful. I think she is nice and her reviews have a heart. Her ratings are absolute sh-it however and I don't trust it at all. She is also very, very biased and it shows. I like her partner Sucharita because she is very relatable and fun to watch. She sees the movie and reviews it like everyone else. But that is also her downfall. She doesn't often critique the technical aspects of the film.
I think this is why Anupama/Sucharita/Rahul's movie talks from Film Companion are my new favorite thing. I love their long discussions. I love that you get 3 different perspectives. I love that you have young harsh Rahul, older traditional bollywood critic Anupama, and you have a lenient fun Sucharita. You get 3 types of critique in one discussion.
