I am totally against that scene
Slapping and things like that are not romantic
It is abuse
However 'Intense' your love is , keep your violent tendencies to yourself.

If someone slapped me , i would totally kick them there

Not cool. Agreed that scene made me uncomfortable as well.
And as someone mentioned same for that BKD scene.

Depends if it is being rationalized in the movie, then that's the problem.
Maybe it's the turning point of the movie. Can't judge from the trailer.

Violence is one thing and slapping on the face is another thing which takes violence to just another level...Its totally totally unacceptable! 👎🏼

I remember mentioning this in my IF review of Sairat as well, that was my only grouse with Sairat and Archie's character graph. She should have slapped back because that's what her character is. A similar thing was beautifully portrayed in Dum Lagake Haisha during the whole Bhumi-Ayushmann confrontation sequence.

He does more than slap her in Sairat if you remember, there is humiliation too. I don't want to say much because of possible spoilers.

But in short I think the slap was during a time when Archie is undergoing an identity crisis. She is this bike riding, tractor riding, taking boys on confident girl in the village. I don't think she was raised like that. Her father after all makes speeches about men who can't control their women and a woman's place. Archie's confidence came from family being rich, the respect accorded to her father, being her father's daughter etc.

In the city she is not able to cook, does not know her way around. So she is not confident. While Parshya knows his way around and he becomes more confident away from his family because he is no more just a poor boy from an untouchable family, he is just Parhsya. He is able to earn, know his way around a kitchen and so on. . I think Archie gets her true confidence when she gets the job. She is shown being a manager. One scene I really loved was Archie is riding the scooter and Parshya is holding the child while usually it is the man driving and the woman holding the child. I think that scene shows them as true equals and Archie being confident except the confidence is due to her own abilities and not anything to do with her family. Hope this makes sense.
