Chapter 48: Loving has just ignited
'You're what?' Maan questioned now walking closer utterly shocked as Geet walked back completely broken.
'I'm pregnant Maan' she said quietly looking at the ground and Maan lost his balance, Sameera was pregnant with his kid
'What rubbish is this?' Dadi interjected, after everything her family was on their way to the mend and this one reality might just disturb their pathway.
'I'm sorry' she cried covering her face and Maan immediately covered her whimpering form into his chest, Vicky held onto Geet in a similar fashion and Meera and Dadi looked at the two pair. What was happening?
'Sameera will stay with us dadi' Maan said walking back to the hall, after the declaration Geet had asked to go to her room and Vicky went along not wanting her to be alone. Maan so badly wanted to follow pursuit but couldn't leave a shaking Sameera, so instead he directed her towards a guest bedroom and asked her to rest.
'Please don't argue, she's pregnant' he further added seeing how his dadi stood up from the sofa to relieve her charged mouth. Meera sat beside too and looked upset by his action, but Maan had no other option; his ex was expecting his baby, this moment a few months ago would have been so ideal but now, now when his heart belonged elsewhere he was ripped in two. Love and duty, once the obligation has now turned to love and what was love was now a duty?
'Vicky why me, why always me?' Geet cried falling to the ground as Vicky ran for support, sitting on the floor he circled his long arms around her petite form. All the crying had took a toll on Geet, for she was too weak to even hug back.
'What have I ever done to deserve this?' she whispered wetting his shirt further and Vicky cried along looking out at the darkening sky. What was wrong with his brother, couldn't he just keep Geet happy?
'Geet woh' Maan entered a few minutes later to see his wife on the floor, her head resting on his brothers chest and his strong arms wrapped around her brittle shoulder.
'NOT NOW' Vicky paused trying to keep his emotions in check, the same old feelings were resurfacing within him: pain, discomfort, that feeling of knowing but not being able to do anything. What was is, frustration?
'Geet' Maan still continued and Vicky was almost at the verge of getting up and pushing Maan out but stilled when he felt Geet move ever so slightly
'Maan I can't, I can't take this pain no more. It's hurting here so much' she pointed to her heart and looked innocently at Maan with all the pain she felt and Maan's heart constricted sharply and then ripped in half. Geet's face that was hidden a few minutes ago was now on display; it showed each pain and each moment she relived from their past. As if a mirage of the horror he inflicted upon her.
'It hurts so so so much. I can't, I just can't take this no more' she repeated covering her face with her palm and sobbed louder with each second, Vicky had then pushed her back into his solitude chest wanting to provide protection from his brother, Maan; who has always managed to hurt this woman. This woman who was so very special to him.
'Geet I'm so sorry' Maan cried wanting to get close but also too scared that the woman he loves will disintegrate with him being there
'I want you to know that Sameera coming back means nothing to me. Yes I will provide for her like a friend and a father of the baby, but nothing more. You are now my love and will remain so' he added bending to the floor so she could meet his eye, and she did, she looked his way even if it was in pain, but there was a relief for a second, a second of relief.
'Geet main tumse bohot bohot bohot pyar karti hoon' he added still from his spot which was a metre away from Geet, and she though still crying looked his way like a lost child wanting to believe yet not trusting him completely
'You and Sameera are going to be mummy and daddy' she cried announcing the only thing running in her head, only people that loved become parents so was she the lost piece in their puzzle, she was the intruder in their life.
'I want to die' she cried louder falling into Vicky, fully hiding herself from Maan and in that minute both Vicky and Maan died a death too. One in torment and the other in agony.
I curse you and your family on this fateful day that the next daughter in the Handa family will never be loved
Your daughter too shall die a death no different than mine
May she also experience rejection in love
'Congratulations Sameera' Adeel rejoiced though his voice was platonic, he truly did want this woman to be happy in her life and her being with Maan caused that happiness.
'Look after yourself' he ordered robotically, though inside he felt an emotion for her. One to protect and shield, she too now belonged in his look-after list maybe even taking priority over Meera and Seema.
'I will and thank you' Sameera thanked, everything in life that seemed dark was now looking better. Maan accepted her and the baby promising to take care of them, if not anything else but he had forwarded his hand again as a friend.
'I thought you said you love Geet' Dadi questioned entering the study, Maan stayed there just so he could be closer to Geet, so he could hear her cry reduce to hiccups and eventually to silent whimpers.
'I DO' he spoke up, convinced and true
'Then what are you doing?'
'Dadi I don't know what to do, I didn't expect Sameera to come back' he sobbed getting up from the bean bag that was positioned near the window.
'Did you know?' Dadi though afraid of the answer but still needed to know
'Had I known she was pregnant, I would have never left her and for sure never married Geet. She doesn't deserve someone as useless as me Dadi, all I given her from day one is pain and more pain. But now I can't give up on her, I love her too much to let go' he cried falling to dadi's knees bursting into a loud cry. Why was life so complicated?
'To you and me' Adeel cheered looking up into her eyes, she smiled down like she always did and then he turned towards a dancing picture of herself feeling the need to see her express her happiness of his plan succeeding. Plot one: pregnant Sameera was placed where she belonged, and now it was time for plot two. However was Geet ready that was the question? He smiled hearing a piece of her in the background while his workers sounded frustrated. Maybe she is!
'Come home soon, my love' he wished stroking her cheek and she looked stilled and sure, as if promising to be by his side soon. His Geet that was in pictures now, will soon be there in actual form in his bedroom which now belonged to her, her memories and her pictures.
'Geet are you OK?' Meera asked walking in with a plate of food, Vicky hadn't stepped out the room and though angry she understood the relation he shared with Geet, hence she wasn't entirely upset either.
'Please eat something' she asked when Geet cried some more, she lay in bed and Vicky on a chair positioned closer massaging her head. The once dark clear sky was now thundering and crashing down rain, maybe akin to Geet's feeling. Hadn't the weather always responded to her mood?
'Book nahi hai' she managed to answer through the hiccupping watching the rain thrust itself against the glassed window, much like how she pushed herself in pain by allowing Maan this close. When he was just a stranger, he killed her hope and dream and now when he was much more, so close to a husband he had snatched her will to live. She didn't want to live like the cursed girl, she didn't want to be a part of Sameera and Maan or even worse come between them.
I curse you and your family on this fateful day that the next daughter in the Handa family will never be loved
Your daughter too shall die a death no different than mine
May she also experience rejection in love
'Geet I'm so sorry' Maan whispered against her skin and she immediately moved as if scorched even in her sleep. He had finally managed to persuade Vicky to go bed leaving behind a sleeping Geet in his care, his brother wouldn't have moved a muscle not even when reminded of his new bride. However a begging Maan was hard to ignore, hence with a final promise Vicky did the needful. Yes maybe his brother did realise his love for his wife, his Geet but also realised he caused nothing but pain to the same woman, his wife, his Geet.
'Maan please don't do this to me' she cried in her sleep and he couldn't help but to hold onto her, to limit the shivering cries that raked her body.
'I love you' he kissed her forehead and slipped beside in bed. He had then pulled his Geet over his chest, trying to sooth both her pain and his ache. Any distance now was excruciating, so when her face hid in his neck he smiled moving slightly and in return she snuggled closer and held him by the waist, he too did the same.
'I LOVE YOU' he whispered hoarsely looking down at her face that was breathing into his neck, the radiation that emitted both absorbed and added fuel to his pain. He loved and somewhere so did she yet there was so much problem between them, problems which he caused and now regretted. He had only one will now: to live with her, to live along her.
