Aamir or Hirani?

Lot of credit has been given to Aamir than even the directors. But, Sanju made me wonder. Let us analyse it.

Ghajini - Masala Action film and remake of a Blockbuster South film

3 Idiots - Rajkumar Hirani

Talaash - Average film

Dhoom 3 - Average film despite Aamir. Did well thanks to Franchise hype

PK - Rajkumar Hirani

Dangal - Nitesh Tiwari

Secret Superstar - Flop in India, Predictable average film

i agree that Aamir is very intelligent n picks the right scripts and directors (most of the time). But a perception was created that he is the one calling the shots than the director.

Sanju was the acid test for Rajkumar Hirani who despite making a propaganda film has actually shown that he was the force behind 3 idiots and PK (these two films cemented Aamir's credibility). And not Aamir unlike the media hype.

Also, if Aamir was that shrewd, the ones in Red including those like Fanaa or Mangal Pandey wud not hv ended up how they did. I think Aamir is very lucky to be at the right place at the right time this decade.

People really need to understand films are not just about one person. It is a collective effort. Ranbir/Aamir, Hirani/Nitesh, Vicky/Fatima. Even Pritam was fundamental to Dangal.

Even Tiger Zinda Hai and Padmavat were full packages. Race 3 unlike Tube light also atleast looked like a action masala entertainer, and franchise sequel, so people turned up over the weekend.

A film is never about one single person. 3 Idiots was an ATBB because everything came together. Everything from the direction to the writing to the acting to the relatable subject to even the songs. Star power is so overrated at times. There is only so much an individual can do. Hirani has delivered good films without Aamir and Aamir has delivered good films even without Hirani. Hirani a brand in himself but lets not get carried away and undermine Aamir here. I may not be a fan but the guy has the best filmography among mainstream actors. He has impeccable script sense and knows what works 9 out of 10 times. Yes he has made bad films but he also has DCH, Lagaan, TZP, Rang De Basanti, 3 Idiots, Dangal etc to be his credit. Which are some of the best films made in the past 2 decades. Aamir has credibility which most other stars lack at this point. As simple as that.

Completely agree... Aamir was generally picking up films intelligently before ghajini as well as post ghajini, only he dint succeed bo wise as much as he succeeded post ghajini..Of course ppl dint come to see 3 idiots bcz of Hirani but it was a wonderful product , courtesy whole team, and an Aamir starrer after Ghajini's tremendous response ..With Pk, it was about the very successful actor and director collaborating again but aamir was never overshadowed unlike what ppl have started to assert after Sanju..And to add, have a look at films produced by his ph, of course he himself has cemented his position and not one or two persons in his career

An actor is the face of the movie, when he acts good we say Wah actor hai Aamir, we don't say Wah kya actor hai Hirani.

Actor is the face of the movie, Director however good he is is still in the background. The Director inputs we discuss in a pseudo intellectual way talking about things we pretend to know about in detail like editing, cinematography and the whole jazz it makes us feel intelligent

And Aamir had joined the 100cr club without Hirani which was also an ATG while the others were struggling

Aamir had 3 record openings and had an ATG before working with Hirani...without Hirani he has 3 ATG in this decade...no doubt there Aamir is a brand like Hirani...which movie of Nitesh was a hit before Dangal?

@rogerrocks:U r trying to make sense but it's in vain bcoz they don't understand it here...I used to do that...They only understand the number game...

Dhoom 3 was a bakwas film but did huge bussiness. Secret superstar was not a flop..it made profits. Fanaa did really good business.

Aamir created imense hype for ghajini..his hairstyle was copied all over. Everyone had 6 packs, he had 8. It was the first 100 cr film. Murgados was director nobody knew about him.

He recovered money from small films like peepli live and dhobi ghaat.

ofcourse hirani has immense goodwill but prople have gone to see sanjay dutt's life..thats a huge factor too.

- 3idiot was 1st HGOTY of Aamir in OS after his debut & made him popular in OS

- Ranbir before Sanju 5 Flops /Disasters
