I wonder how you would clear the Rhea fiasco. But for now please make Nikhil and Neils bond stronger so that Avni cant distance herself from her perfect family.
The chapter was awesome as usual.

Chapter 8:

Neil's POV

Neela Ma's presence was a welcomed relief in the house. While she knew something was wrong, she hadn't pressed.

One week later, Avni and I had barely interacted. We took Nikhil to the hospital together, met with some of the other parents, and when Nikhil had asked why one of their child was bald, we had been at a loss for words.

We knew it was only a matter of time before Nikhil's hair starts falling off, and we would need to address this question for him. But, we hadn't been prepared for it.

Crouching down his level, I had explained that sometimes when the body was really sick, that it couldn't keep all the energy to do things like grow hair because it needed to focus on getting better. So, the body lets all the hair go; only to come back later. Nikhil had seemed satisfied with my answer.

After his tests were done, we had stopped by to get ice-cream as per his request.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We were back home and all of us were tucked in our beds. I laid wide awake in mine as I let my mind wander.

Tomorrow was my birthday. It would be the first birthday I was celebrating with Avni again after 3 years. I still remembered my 24th birthday. We had gone out to party with our friends, after which we had tumbled back home and fell asleep in my bed.

I sighed.

The morning of my birthday had been engraved inside in my core. I would never forget how she had woken me up.

Light feathery kisses on my cheek and neck woke me up. I groaned and looked up; blinking the grit out of my eyes. Avni was straddling my hips as she leaned down on me. The room was bright with sunlight streaming in from the large windows. She was wearing one of my white button down shirts; her black hair was pulled over her left shoulder as she leaned forward to kiss me again. This time on my lips.

She looked ethereal.

"Happy birthday, baby," she said softly. Her voice low, but loud enough that I heard her. I lifted my hand up and pulled her down for another kiss; a deeper one.

"I love you," I whispered against her lips.

"I love you more," she replied as she pecked my lips and lifted up again.

I watched her. In the sunlight with the crisp white shirt, she looked like an angel. I ran my hands up pale thighs. Her eyes fluttered. I kept my eyes on her face when I reached for the buttons on my shirt. Nimbly, I unbuttoned the top half of the shirt and allowed her breasts to spill out.

I cupped her gently. When she moaned, I stretched up to pull her into a kiss.

The shirt was pushed down her hips. She moved my boxers out of the way, and gave me the best birthday gift ever.

We had cut the cake that she had hidden in the fridge and had spent the majority of the day wrapped in each other. It had been the first and last birthday of mine that we had spent together.

My shorts were tight as I relived the memory of that birthday. I had no expectations that anything like that would happen again, but I wished Avni and I were in better speaking terms.

I wanted more than anything to mend my relationship with her and make amends for my lack of courage and my inability to stand by her three years ago.

I sighed, got up from my bed and went to the bathroom. I needed a shower. A cold one.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shweta's POV

We had past clearance and we checked in when he realized where we were going.

"Delhi? Kyun?" He asked; his face tight.

"Arey. Mere Tillu ka birthday hai. And he'll spend it alone? No ways, Khanna Ji. We'll be in Delhi first thing tomorrow morning and we'll surprise him."

"Theek hai," he replied with a frown, " mein bathroom hokar aata houn." He walked away from me, a little distracted.

Something weird was going on. I knew Tillu was involved somehow and watching Khanna Ji act like this reinforced my doubts.

When he came back from the bathroom, his face was pinched. His forehead creased with worry.

"Sab theek?"

"Ji".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So, where is Tillu staying? What hotel?" I asked.

"Uhm, chaliye. I'll take you where he is."

My doubts became more concrete as I watch him get off the highway and drive towards suburban Delhi. When the car pulled into a driveway, I looked at him, shocked.

The beautiful bungalow stood across sprawling lawns. A small bike was tossed in the corner by a tree and appeared to be forgotten. A small swing set could be seen in the back.

Where the hell was I?

My hands holding the chocolate cake shook as I stepped closer to the front door and noticed the sign that read "Neela Parikh."

No.

Neil had found out.

Chapter 9:

Shweta's POV

Prakash didn't hesitate to ring the door bell, and within minutes the door was opened by a tall saree clad woman that I had only seen in pictures before. Her long lustrous hair was pulled away from her face and her eyes widened at the sight of us.

"Khanna saab aap?" She said as she looked at my husband. They knew each other. I was surprised. Prakash had only known about the girl Neil loved in college. He had never met her.

"Namaste Neela ji," said Prakash as he folded his hands, "yeh Shweta hai, Neil ki mom."

Neela's smile dropped her face as she turned to me. Her eyes were cold. She nodded minutely at me but didn't extend a greeting.

I narrowed my eyes.

"Hum andar..." started Prakash and Neela looked hesistant.

"Lekin aap yahan?"

"Aaj Neil ka birthday hai aur Shweta ne zid ki..." he paused, " she didn't want him to be alone on his birthday."

"Come in," said Neela as she stepped inside and asked us to follow her.

My heart stuttered when I saw the girl sitting at the table. She looked different- she was skinnier, her face smaller and her eyes had bags underneath them. The nose ring was gone.

She looked up when she heard footsteps. Her face tightened when she saw me, and turned red with anger.

I sneered at her.

She ignored me, " Hello uncle," she said as she greeted Prakash.

"Hi beta, kaisi ho?"

"Good," she replied.

"Aur humara Nikhil?"

"He's doing well so far..." she replied.

"Still sleeping?"

"No, he's brushing his teeth. He insisted that Neil help him today."

"Aw, so cute. You're playing house," I said.

"I'm not playing anything. Your son decided..."

"He decided or you batted your eyes at him to make him stay?"

"Mom," interrupted Neil as he entered the breakfast area, "enough." On his hip was a small boy, with straight black hair and a face just like Neil's when he was younger.

My breath caught.

"Tillu, tum yahan kya..."

"I should be asking you this. What are you doing here?" His voice held a harshness that I had never heard from Neil before.

"Tillu, I want to know what are you doing here?"

Neil held his hand up. "We're not discussing any of this until after Nikhil's had breakfast."

"Tillu, bas. Bahut hogaya..."

"Mom, you can choose to have breakfast here with us, or you can wait outside. But any discussion we have will have to wait until after Nikhil's breakfast, okay?"

"Khanna Saab," I started as I turned to my husband for support. But, he was crossing the room to stand in front of Neil.

"Hi Nikhil," he was saying as he peered into the small face, " remember me?"

I gasped. My husband knew about all of this too.

"I'm Neil's father. We met at the hospital, remember?"

The boy nodded, shied away from Khanna Ji and hid his face in Neil's neck. I was surprised to see the bond between father and son.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The boy was pale and looked sickly. I observed Avni trying to feed him. He had three apple slices, and nothing else.

When he refused to eat, Avni took him out of his high chair and placed him on her lap. She touched his forehead and frowned a little. He looked exhausted. And no wonder, they didn't feed him well enough.

I sniffed.

"Why don't I take Nikhil inside and you guys can catch up," said Avni as she stood up with the boy in her arms.

"Nahi, Avni," interjected Neil, "Neela Ma, would you mind watching Nik for a few minutes?Avni tum rukho, please."

Neela shook her head and went to take her grandson from Avni. The boy went to her without fussing, though it didn't look like he had any energy to fuss. Avni watched with worried eyes as he was taken from her.

Neil waited until the boy was back in his room before he faced me. He raised an eyebrow expectantly.

"Neil, what is this, huh? What the hell are you doing with this girl again?" I hissed at him.

" Kyun? Where should I be, if not with my son?" asked Neil as he stared at me. His eyes were furious. "Did you know that Avni was pregnant?" He asked me.

I blinked at him. He was staring straight at me; his eyes full of fury. Avni looked up at him. Her face passive and unreadable.

"No. I had no idea."

Avni turned to look at me; her eyes wide. She didn't say a word.

"Avni, do you want to say something?" asked Neil. She shook her head; her eyes never moved from mine.

"You made your decision years ago, Neil. There's no point in rehashing all of this now," she replied; her voice broke a little but her eyes never wavered from mine. She stood up, but Neil held her hand.

" I was young and stupid when I made my decision. I was influenced by my mother who manipulated me. My decision hasn't changed from a week ago."

"And pray tell, Tillu. What decision is that?" " Yeh ladkhi... Us ladkhi ko choose karoge jiski paidaish..."

"Paidaish p aap jao mat, Mom. Before pointing a finger at Avni's parentage, look what you did. I can't look my son in the eyes because of you," he growled.

" Three years ago, I made a mistake when I chose you over Avni. I hated myself every single day for the last 3 years but none of that hate amounts to the loathing I felt about myself when I found out I have a child who doesn't know me. My son still doesn't know his father because of you. I can't forgive you, Mom."

He stopped talking and took in a deep breath, "I will be staying in Delhi as long as Nikhil needs me. As long as Avni will have me," he said as he looked from me and back to Avni again. His eyes wide, honest and pleading as he looked at her.

When she looked at him, the tears she had been holding on to fell. Neil's eyes were wet as well.

"I won't have this," I interrupted. "This girl and that boy are not welcomed in my house."

" There's a reason why I've been lying to you since I got here, Mom. I knew you would never change. Your heart didn't even melt for that little boy, who's your grandson. How stone hearted can you be? Avni and Nikhil are not going to your house, Mom. Neither am I."

"Tillu..."

He raised his hand, " My decision is final. Dad," he said as he turned towards Prakash, " I'm not moving back to Mumbai. If you need me to resign..."

Prakash laughed a little, "I don't want you to resign, Neil. But, if you do, I want it to be because you want to pursue a career in law enforcement like you always dreamed of. I've always wanted to expand my business to Delhi, Neil. Khanna Industries is yours and Nikhil's after you... but the decision is yours."

"That boy is not a Khanna...:

" Nikhil mera pota hai, Shweta. Aapke maane yah na maane se sach nahi badle ga. Anyway, Khanna Industries is mine and I am the only one who decides who will be my successor."

"Yehi toh chaati hai yeh ladhki.. Humari dowlut..."

"Dowlut ke baare mein aap baat mat hi karo toh accha hoga," came a voice from my right.

Neela.

"Avni and Aman are the successor of my properties and I've been blessed with a lot of money and properties." "But, this isn't the time. Avni, Neil, Nikhil's fever is spiking.. I think you should take him to the hospital..."

Avni and Neil ran inside. Neela followed them.

There was a flurry of movements and voices. I looked at Prakash. His expression was not a confused one but rather a worried one.

It was just a fever. Why were they so worried?

It wasn't long before Neil came out with the boy resting on his shoulders, Avni followed with a bag in tow, and Neela was on the phone.

"I'm calling Dr. Batra. I'll let Aman know you're on the way with Nik, she said as she followed them to the door. "I'll be right behind you...
