Avni screamed as Neil lifted her into his arms, she wrapped her arms around his neck "What are you doing Neil"
He smiled back at her "Youre pregnant wifey, couldnt risk you falling down the stairs, so ill carry you"
Avni rolled her eyes "Neil, im pregnant, not an invalid, I can very well walk up the stairs without falling"
Neil pouted "Well, fine, if you dont need me, then whats the point" he sat down on the stairs of the busy mall, putting her on his lap
Avni shook her head, embarassed "Neil, let me up, people need to get past"
Neil sighed heavily "My wife doesnt love me"
"Oh my" Avni muttered in disbelief and tried to get up
Neil shook his head "Nope"
"Anyone would think you're the pregnant one with all of your emotions changing so fast" she muttered
Neil gasped "Excuse me, youre so rude, all I have ever done is loved you and this is the thanks I get in return"
Avni furrowed her brows "Fine you can carry me up the stairs"
Neil shrugged "Well I dont know if I want to now, you've upsett me"
Avni tapped his head "Did I hurt your ego, poor boy" she mimicked
Neil glared back at her "Give me a kiss and ill forgive you"
"No, we're in public" she berated, she stood up and walked up the stairs, making Neil stand up
"Wife troubles " a man asked, Neil nodded "Yeah, its because shes pregnant"
The man laughed, Neil laughed with him
He arrived at the top of the stairs to see a very heavily pregnant Avni glaring at him with her arms crossed over her bump
"Youre cute when you're angry"
Avni scrunched up her nose "And youre a pain in my"
Neil covered her mouth "Dont swear, the baby may hear" he whisper shouted
"Right, right and the baby will understand it how"
Neil shrugged, moving his hand away "Babies are smart"
Avni looked up at him "In comparison to you, yeah" and then she stormed off
It was a few hours later when Avni and Neil left the shopping mall, Neil stopped the car and turned to Avni to try and get her to talk to him, but he found her asleep.
He couldnt avoid the smile that made its way to his lips as he moved a stray hair out of her face "Im sorry wifey, I know I am a little protective sometimes, I just cant help it, I love you and our baby so much, I just want to help but I know that most of the time im just annoying" he laughed making Avni stir, she opened her eyes, looking up at him
Neil started the car again, pretending nothing had happened, but Avni hid her smile, having heard everything he said.
They arrived home and Avni stretched her legs up "Im quite tired, would you mind carrying me in"
The smile on his face made breathing a lot harder for Avni, she stretched out her arms as she stepped out of the car and he picked her up
"See, I knew you needed my help" he said, knowingly
Avni nodded "Yes hubby, youre always correct" truth was she only said that to pacify him, she knew she felt like she was going crazy when he was over protective like this, but it was only his love and if asking him to carry her in would appease him and make him feel helpful, then being carried everywhere wasnt so bad when he smiled at her like she was something special
Neil placed Avni on the bed, then jumped in beside her. Avni held his hand as she closed his eyes
"Avni"
"Yeah"
"Love you"
"Love you to" she laughed
Neil looked down at her "Youre not angry at me are you"
She shook her head "You're not angry at me are you"
He shook his head "Like i could ever be mad at you"
Avni squeezed his cheek, smiled then leaned up and kissed him on the lips "Youre going to be a great father"
His eyes lit up "You think so"
She nodded, because she fully believed for once that not every father would be an Ashish Mehta, Neil would be the exact opposite and he would never leave his child, no matter what
"Youll be a great mother Avni"
Avni smiled "Thank you"
"A perfect mix of Neela ma and Ayesha ma" he promised, kissing her forehead and wiping away a stray tear
"How did I get so lucky" she asked, looking up at him adoringly
"I ask myself the same thing everyday"
And then they fell asleep together, ready for another day with the same antics, but knowing they could get through anything aslong as they were together
