I just came across this video on youtube. And the news also say the same. All these pageants were sponsored by the same people, right that's how the finalists were sent to Ms Universe/World etc. So will the Indian pageant follow suit.
Not endorsing the content of the video by any means, but what will they be judged on- talent round I guess will still be there/what else?
Thoughts please.

Scholarships as prizes sounds excellent. If done right with science/math/music or dance or skill rounds it surely is a great idea.

The Miss America competition scrapped the swimsuit competition and will no longer judge contestants based on their looks, the organization announced this morning.

"We are no longer a pageant. We are a competition. We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance," Gretchen Carlson, former Miss America and chair of the organization's board of trustees, broke the news on Good Morning America today.

The contest is also "revamping" the evening gown portion of the event, Carlson added. "We're no longer judging women when they come out in their chosen attire, their eveningwear. Whatever they choose to do, it's going to be what comes out of their mouth that we're interested in when they talk about their social impact initiatives," she said.

The changes are official starting with the next Miss America competition on September 9 in Atlantic City, NJ.

The organization also says it'll become more inclusive in terms of body diversity. When asked if the competition will now feature "women of all shapes and sizes," Carlson answered, "Yes, we want to be open, transparent, inclusive to women who may not have felt comfortable participating in our program before."

"We want more women to know that they are welcome in this organization," Carlson later added. She also emphasized the scholarships connected to the competition.

Good move. I am not sure how they would retain the glamour aspect of things because this is part of show business and looks are important but then again even I am tired of the bare minimum intelligence noted at these pageants.

Well if competitions like these who proclaim themselves as 'scholarship' contests want respect, they need to come to the real world.
Most women who wear a bikini in RL do not do so to showcase their figure or stand around to get oggled around and marked by men and a few token women.

In my gym you can see everyone from grandmas to pregnant women to flabby women to toned women swim wearing one piece, two piece, some with a skirt attached. But all of them swim for exercise as it is one of the best exercises. No one stands and poses showcasing their figure to attract men or attention. So unless Miss. America has an olympic contest in swimming, better cancel such archaic, sexist contests.
