Nitika Anand (NA), phenomemal she is. None else could make Pinky Singh Oberoi what she is. Everything about PSO is in relation to Shivay. Anyone would have made it another bland insecure and loud mother. Bas!!! It's NA's nuances that are essence to the PSO that we adore. The journey was beautiful and in a way complete today.
The word "mamta indeed has several connotations.
It implies affection. It also means the sense of ownership, self interest and arrogance, egotism, the feeling of attachment, even pride. In all it is also about the state of mine ( Mam-Ta or My-ness).
Pinky was all of it when it was about her son Shivay.
The arrogance of being SSO's mom, The ego and pride in equal measure of having such an illustrious son who is the pillar, the great wall who cements this house by his very nature, her self-interest in getting him the best wife equal in NKK all amounted to her love for her son.
There were occasions when we had to agree with her in spite of how she treated Anika, each time she stood up FOR her son, against the mighty Tej, who never shied away from passing remarks on Tej's affair( not one could do it till date). When she spoke of how his son works relentlessly and others bask in glory, you feel for her even when you are angry at her for Anika.
Nitika Mukherjee, absolutely brilliant performer. You agree with her even when you are angry. At times you support her inspite of her caustic remarks which spoke much truth.
She was introduced as this character loud in her dressing sense and with a weak English vocab, and even perhaps weird with her habit of adding "s to her English words. One scene that stood out for me and made me notice her was in the episode where she tells the family how her own son feels awkward about her and how she felt like an outsider coming from a humble background married into a rich family. I was touched by the scene where she reminisces about a scooter her father had. She beautifully brought out the struggle of still being the person from middle class at heart and somewhere lost in trying to adjust.
The three days challenge to Anika annoyed me to a good measure. But the scene she blurts out everything to Shivay with no remorse and no repentance about what length she went to was so convincing that you ended up feeling bad for her.
I do feel she is good at comic timing. The morning after scene following Fruit punch night was so much fun. You could feel the warmth when she chides OmRu with baal kaat dene ka mann kar raha hai , ikkis badaam, pichle nights ka videotape chal raha hai, and all of that, her hand gesture about the group passed out, her mummy ji when she hears Dadi...such a fantastic actress.
There are so many adorable scenes of Pinky with every character. Her chemistry with Dadi is adorable, she is respectful but makes her comments nevertheless, she is the dominating wife with Shakti with her aap rehne dijiye, her sarcasm with Tej, her bff now- foe tomorrow status with Jhanvi, affection in general but situational dislike for OmRu when she finds/judges them guilty of not helping/as a threat to Shivay, her insecurities about Anika's importance in her son's life, her fierce protectiveness, everything about Pinky is real and from heart.
Whatever is the emotion, its dil se. And Nitika Anand, the way she owns her character is also DIL SE.
I love how NM and NA's scenes turn out. It's genuine and warm. Pinky Shivay's showdown during her reveal was a revelation in itself. Yesterday's onscreen bday and offscreen farewell scene was ADORABLE. I loved it seeing Shivay gesturing her to close her eyes by touching both sides of her forehead, her reaction to that, him making her wear the necklace, and as if in reflex, he goes on to set her unruffled hair back, how Anika stretched out to help too, the aap zyada jagah leti hain, her slight slap pyar se, Anika's hawww in the bg, Ru's spontaneous smile, Shivay twirling Dadi in the back drop, everything seemed perfect. It's beautiful to see such warmth.
I saw the interview with SBS. Everything was beautiful about her, but I really have to point out her generosity, as she shows her collection of sarees, she tells the interviewer, "You can borrow from me if/when you want. She needn't have said that. But she did. Things like these make one appreciate the person behind the onscreen persona.
Nitika Anand, will miss you on onscreen, wishing you all the very best in life, hoping to have you back on IB, god-willing!!! Good health and happiness to you. God bless!!!.
