Chapter 37
Shattered Illusions

Here it comes again
The pain of betrayal
Just the price I have to pay
For being way to loyal

It hits me hard again
The pain of abandonment
Just a follow up
On being naive and ignorant

There it is again
The pain of losing faith
Locking away my feelings
Fighting against the hate

I fall down again
The pain of shattered trust
Is there no friend who's true?
My spirit is being crushed

Can't do this again
Too many broken promises
Maybe I'll just give up on friendship
My soul can't handle anymore bruises...

~Nothing is more sad than the death of an illusion.~

"The child is hemorrhaging, we need to control the blood flow right now, so please sign this consent form?, the nurse thrust a paper beneath Ramlal's nose. "Well...I am...I..., he stuttered, looking confusedly at the paper. "Are you his father...if not we are sorry to say that we won't be able to help the child...it's a police case afterall, she rapped out impatiently. Ramlal pursed his lips, seething at the inhuman way she was talking about the child, as if he was not a live being but a thing which could be thrown out if it became useless. "I am the father, he nodded his head, then almost snatching the paper out of her hand signed it with a flourish...
"What's the verdict Doctor Joshi?, handing the paper back to the nurse he hurried towards the elderly looking man in white gown who was coming out of the emergency room. "Not good at all, we've are unable to control the bleeding, his wounds are too deep, and we still don't know how badly he's been injured internally, the way he looks now, he's all cuts and bruises. Whoever he or they were, they threw him out in the cold after abusing him. So he's also got hypothermia from the cold, he explained somberly.
"bas***ds, Ramlal bit out, clenching his fists helplessly at his sides.
"I can't confirm that he will live Ramlal...he is in a very bad shape, Joshi shook his head sadly. "He will survive, Ramlal, raised his chin stubbornly. "I will make sure that he will,he added, a determined look in his eyes.

"Ladies and gentlemen after undertaking this program you no longer exist as a common person. Your whole lives are going to change as of now. This place is your home, the goals we set are your reason for existence. Beyond that you've got no existence. You cannot leave, in other words we won't ever let you leave. It's not a warning, it's not a threat even, it's what you chose to become. And that is "Agent Zero. That is going to be your name from today. Like the number zero you've got no value except when it plays a central role in monetary figures and you my dear friends are going to play yours by infiltrating the underworld.
It's your task, your mission, infact consider it your whole life. There is no point of return, you cannot give up ever, you cannot ditch this mission. Break the code of conduct and you are a goner, no one will help you, sabotage the mission and we will eliminate you from our team, betray us and we will remove you from our record...
Your name won't be mentioned in history...
Many of you are broken by the hands of your enemies, many of you have got resentment against life, once you must have tried to end your life, commit suicide, but you no longer need to do that anymore. We give you hope, so that you can crush your enemies, burn them as you've burned at their hands. Tear them apart as your lives had been torn apart. Don't care about the methods, do whatever you have to do, but the end result should be their destruction...
"It's the only way that you can find peace. We have honed you in to a lethal machine, killed all your gentler feelings so nobody will be able to play with them. You are now invulnerable, the uniformed man ended his speech on a passionate note and all the young men and women who were engrossed in listening raised their hands murmuring in acknowledgement.
"So let the game begin, he cried out and an echo of his words began as a littany, gathering force until every member present in the great hall began to chant the words. "Let the game begins...let the game begins, they cried out in unison...
A young man in his early twenties, raised a trembling hand and shouted out with the full force of his lungs. "Let the game begin, his voice came out shaky, but surmounted by the anger and passion that vibrated through every pore of his body.
Arnav Singh Raizada was ready, ready to take the responsibility of an adult, ready to take revenge and crush his enemy into dust...
He didn't have to fear the retaliation of his enemy, he could easily defend himself now. But first he had to fight many obstacles so he could labor his way to the lair of his enemy...
He had waited for so long, waiting more for a few years was nothing. He could do that, he would definitely do that...

The room was completely empty, except for a big bundle that was placed in a corner. Lit with a greenish-gray hue the whole surrounding reflected the inside of some beastly dungeon, stinking with the putrid smell of death and fear...
There was no opening in the room merely a tiny rectangular hole above the metal door and only a sliver of light could be seen entering beneath that door, causing shadows to flicker across the damp walls...
Another moment and the door opened, creaking on its rusty hinges to reveal the shadowed face of some man. Light poured in abundance inside the room from behind the man, revealing the bundle in the corner which started squeaking and squirming at once, showing signs of life, it's activity hindered due to some restriction placed on his body.
The man stepped slowly in the room like a cautious beast, opening the door wider causing the light to wholly reveal the bundle's eyes and long spiky lashes covered with tears. Hazel pupils widened with fright and something more...an awareness for the man's presence...
That living creature moved then, struggling and rolling on the floor, wriggling away from the man. The position revealed the face of that creature. Rounded, cherubic and feminine it was marred with tear streaks making dirty tracks across the cheeks. The lips were cracked, bloodied and swelled around the piece of cloth stuffed in the mouth...
The man-beast sauntered towards the woman. As the he moved nearer she could see the eyes clearly in the greenish hue and a shiver crawled across her spine...
Lit with an unholy glint, they were so dark that where the pupil began and ended wasn't easy to be distinguished .She cowered in the corner, squeezing her eyes shut, feeling the gush of air that breezed across her arms, raising hairs along the skin, as the man sat on his haunches near her. His warm breath peppered across her face before the piece of cloth was removed brutally from her mouth...
Her eyes opened, staring into the forbidding face above hers, the eyes lit with the fire of vengeance. A cold draught moved in the room banging at the metal door and it clanged shut on Khushi's blood curdling scream!...

"Wake up Khushi...wake up, Sojal's voice penetrated through the haunting grip of nightmare and her eyes snapped open, heart pounding like a kettle drum, body slick with perspiration she watched as if through a mist, Sojal's worried face floating above hers. "What happened?, she asked groggily, squinting in the dim light to watch the hands of the wall clock and what she saw made her heart stutter with fear. Her eyes widening with trepidation, for a second she could swear that the walls of the room were kind of looking greenish-gray, just like the interior of a cavern inside her nightmare and her breath freezing in her throat, she could smell the putrid breath of the beast on her face...
She blinked and the illusion was lost, the walls took on the innocent hue of yellow, lit by the light of the table lamp but the warning was not lost on Khushi who in panic knocked poor Sojal off her bed. "What the hell Khushi?, she gasped in pain, rubbing at her abused posterior. Ignoring her Khushi jumped off the bed and ran towards the cupboard. In a mad frenzy, she clawed at clothes, pulling things out of the drawers and chucking them across the room on her bed. Then she dragged two suitcases from underneath her bed and placed them on the twisted bed covers that were the evidence of her garish nightmare...
"Quick, we need to get out of here Sojal?, there was a sort of panic in Khushi's voice as she began piling up clothes before throwing them higgledy-piggledy among other things in the two suitcases. "What's the hurry?, Khushi missed the sudden flash of fear in her friend's eyes. "What?...are you crazy...haven't you seen the news...that damned man is out of the hospital and now his minions must be hunting across the whole city like a pack of wolves in search of us, she ranted, her hands working like lightning as she chucked a set of pajama bottoms successfully across the room and into the suitcase. "But still aren't we a little safe here...I mean it's better than roaming on the streets...or trying to travel to another city, Sojal threw a surreptitious glance at Khushi who whipped her head, glaring at her friend's pale face...
"We are not going to roam the streets...damn it Sojal...why are you hesitating now...we should get going...before that bas***d of your husband finds you, she snapped her jaw irritably...
"Khushi...I...,Sojal began, her gaze flickering nervously across Khushi's irritated features. "What?", she asked chillingly, feeling uneasy all of a sudden...
They were staying in a rundown motel, courtesy of her friend Jon. It was a cheap, shoddy place to spent a night lest a week, but beggars can't be choosers, Khushi was coming to accept that truth. For a week they hadn't left the motel, at all. Sojal had been too overwrought to even step outside of her room. When they had seek refuge in the motel, Khushi had made sure that Sojal had taken all of her valuables, jewelry and cash before leaving her husband's house for good...
Khushi had contacted her friend Jon and through one of his contacts they had found a place where they can lay low. Seeing Arnav Singh Raizada getting discharged from the hospital in the news she had been greatly disturbed. From two nights she was continuously seeing the same nightmare on loop...
And in her consternation she had been completely blind to the changes occurring in her friend Sojal's behavior. It was only as if now that she was beginning to notice something bizarre, like an eerie expression on Sojal's face...
"What?, she asked again, a little sharply, her sixth sense on alert, narrowed eyes fixed on Sojal's strained face. Before Sojal could reply a crash resounding from the corridor outside their room alerted Khushi to the danger. "No...no...Sojal, quick we've got to get out of here, Khushi ran towards the windows, throwing them open. "It's not much of a drop, we can easily get out, she threw a jubilant glance at her friend, who was standing frozen, her eyes wide with fright and another expression which Khushi was unable to decipher in her haste.
Picking up the suitcases one by one, she staggered towards the window and with all her might hefted them on the window sill before throwing them outside. The sound of pounding footsteps was coming closer. "Quick Sojal, you get out of here first, I'll follow you, she pulled at her arm, but Sojal refused to cooperate. "Khushi...I am sorry, she hung her head...
It came to Khushi like a bolt of lightning. The words betrayal screamed in her mind before the door to their room was flung open...

Outside there was a jungle
Inside it was burning
If I could release my fire
Everything would burn to ashes
And If I would hide it
I would be the one to burn down

Arnav Singh Raizada was burning. Hatred, pain, betrayal had metamorphosed into a raging inferno, scorching him, stripping him raw. It was a fire that knew no bounds, the flames spreading like wildfire through his heart. He wanted to scream, to rage and rant at the unfairness, but at the same time he wanted to douse the whole world into gasoline...
Mainly Khushi Kumari Gupta...the cause of his agony, his humiliation, his breakdown. The fire which Khushi Kumari Gupta had lit in his heart, was cruel and vicious. The cunning and manipulative bitch had thrown him in the fiery pit of humiliation, where his ideals were also burning with him. The taste of it bitter in his mouth, he knew he had to find her at any cost. Once he had hated her, but now he loathed her very existence...
She was the cause of his humiliation and she would be the cure to his agony. He would make sure that he won't be the only one to burn. Screaming, kicking, he would drag her down to the inferno with him...
He had come to believe that he was destined to remain in pain, but why the hell she should be the one to get Scot-free. She should also feel the agony of shattered illusions, to feel the helplessness of his heart writhing like a captured bird in his rib cage...
Begging for mercy, she would live his pain, screaming, writhing she would die with him, would burn every excruciating minute, every suffocating second of the day. He would take all of her independence, her freedom, murder each and every illusion of hers before her eyes, until she would start hating the very life flowing through her veins...
Until she would be the one to kill herself and end the cycle of vengeance...

"Did you find that person...who helped Khushi escape?, there was a lethal edge to Arnav's voice as he queried from his henchman Shyam. It had been two nights that he had discharged himself from the hospital, to the utter dismay of Doctor Joshi. But he had work to do, every single waking minute was making him desperate to find Khushi."Yes, I've checked all of her contacts, and it's only a girl named Sojal who is missing from her home from the past week, Shyam announced.
"Sojal..hmm..., Arnav narrowed his eyes in concentration. "Ah I get it now...I have seen her before...she was one of the members of the reprobate gang Khushi used to lead. "She is married now...we have met her husband...Mr. Arvind Ahuja, a very shady character to be precise. He is a business man, with his fingers embedded deeply in lots of ventures from hotels to traveling and stuff like insurance. "Arvind Ahuja...I know him...who could forget a character like him, Arnav's mouth curled with distaste. "He was in news years ago...for abusing his wife...that man beat her black and blue then left her for dead in his hotel suite...the bell boy saved her...the woman survived and trapped him in a court case, so after the nasty divorce that stripped him of half of his wealth, he is now married to Sojal...I really pity that gal, he shook his head cynically...
"Contact him...if we are unable to stomach his ways...we need him...for the information, Arnav ordered...
"Yes sir, I've already contacted him...he tried to pull one over on me...told me that Sojal has gone to her mother's house, but when I threatened him with your name...he got scared enough to spill all the beans. Told me that she has ran away, taking away all of her jewelry and bank balance and that he doesn't know about her whereabouts. Then he begged me to keep mum as it is about the matter of his reputation. I gave him my number and asked him to tell me if he gets even a whiff of information on his wife's whereabouts and in return took his number as well, Shyam explained.
"Ah that's good...Shyam...really good, Arnav lifted from his chair at once to thump his back cheerfully, eyes glittering with satisfaction. "Th...thanks...sir, Shyam stuttered, face blushing, feeling overwhelmed with Arnav's praise...
It was only on those rare cases that Arnav praised people but when he did it was because they were really good at what they did. He wasn't particularly a nagging boss but he did demand complete honesty and effort in work. The tests he gave people were horrendous, the pace at which he worked was atrocious but in the end whoever would be smart and hardworking enough to pass his tests and keep up with his pace were praised and rewarded greatly by him...
"I need that girl, Shyam, there was a lethal edge to Arnav's voice as he ordered Shyam. "I don't care what method you apply, how will you track her...I just need the results, her infront of me...at any cost, the last words he whispered to himself, with barely controlled fury...
"Yes Sir, Shyam bowed his head in obedience and turned on his heels to head outside...
It was his lucky day it seemed, he thought walking jauntily, a grin on his face...

They had found them. It was him, her nemesis, her lover, her obsession and the cause of her nightmares. Standing in the doorway, his head lifted at a proud angle, eyes hidden beneath a pair of glasses, he was back to break hell over her. Her hungry gaze roamed across his thin pursed lips, his broad shoulders encased in a dark shirt, the powerful muscles of his thighs snug in jeans, revealing the unleashed power of the man beneath...
She knew he wasn't alone, but the people behind him remained in the shadows, never showing their faces. Like an alpha wolf he knew when to move forward alone and when to call for the help of his pack...
"Khushi Kumari Gupta...at last, there was a haunting darkness to his voice, as he took her name. He is alive, I can be guilt free, she thought. A wave of pure delight crossing her face before despair took its place...
He is going to exact his pound of flesh now as he had found me, she thought staring into the bottomless pits of his eyes as he removed his glasses. His face was thinner and paler than before, but not even the dark circles beneath his eyes could detract the poignant beauty of his eyes...
"You are free to take away your gal...I will deal with her myself, not moving his eyes away from her face he spoke to the person standing behind him. With a sinking heart, Khushi knew the her was not anyone but her. "What did you do Sojal?, she asked sharply, alarmed as a shadow detached itself from the group to enter the room. It was Arvind Ahuja...
"I am sorry Khushi...I had to do it, Sojal cried. "You hypocritical bitch, Khushi rounded on her in fury, a hand raised to slap her. "I am pregnant Khushi...please try to understand my situation, Sojal cowered, hands raised above her face in defense. Her hand stilling in mid-air, she watched with shocked eyes, her mind whirring, trying to take in the truth of her pregnancy.
"Nah...nah...my beauty...you don't get to slap her...it's my job you know, Arvind had reached her side, a loathsome grin on his boyishly handsome face. Catching her wrist in a vise-like grip he lowered her hand, forcibly, slowly but painfully enough to make Khushi grit her teeth. It was a battle of dominance, man versus woman, as old as times. His stare told her that he was enjoying his dominance, but he had forgotten that she wasn't his wife, she wasn't Sojal Ahuja who would cower before him or show him her pain...
She would die before letting any man enjoy her pain...

"Leave her Arvind, it's not her fault, Sojal whinnied, her voice trailing away as soon as Arvind threw her a warning glare. "That's quite a spirited gal you've got here Arnav...tame her will you, he snapped with frustration...
"Don't tell me what to do Arvind...I don't take orders from anyone..remember, Arnav who was leaning against the doorjamb, arms folded across his chest, calmly watching the fight of dominance unfolding before his eyes, warned silkily...
"Ah I get it...if only I get to tame her, he grinned suddenly throwing a lust-filled gaze at Khushi. Typical male, Khushi thought, a cynical smile curling across her mouth.
When they don't get near to dominating women mentally, they start to become physical...
Arnav's knuckles cracked, as he clenched his hands by his side in fists...
"No need to get excited my boy, Ramlal who had entered noiselessly inside the room among Shyam and two other Arnav's henchmen, patted his arm in warning...
Smirking nastily Arvind released Khushi's wrist, pushing her at Arnav who caught her arm at once drawing her to his side...
"I am excited what to do...and I need a channel to release my excitement you know, he pulled a face. "Let's see where can I release it, his eyes flitted across the room before landing on the scared face of Sojal, who was standing in a corner. With an unpleasant smile he dragged her towards him then slapped across her face...
Sojal moaned painfully, falling to her knees. "Don't please, I am pregnant with your child, she pleaded, thin arms wrapped across her belly...
Khushi growled under her breath, stepping forward, but Arnav's grip on her arm pulled her back...
He shook his head in warning as she gave him a ferocious glare...
"It's not my child...whose brat it is, he raised a leg to aiming a kick at her stomach. And Khushi thought enough was enough. She pulled at Arnav's restraining arm with all her might and this time he let her go without any protest...
Sauntering across the room, she reached to stand by Arvind's side and tapped him on his shoulder...
"Need some channel for your excitement babe, she leaned, showing him the cleavage. "Here I am think you can tame me sugar, she purred, batting her eyelashes. She could hear the collective gasp of Sojal and the people present in the room...
Never having any idea about the audacity, of the girl before him, Arvind's mouth fell open with shock. His widened eyes never saw Khushi clenching her fingers in a fist, neither he noticed the punch materializing out of thin air to hit him hard across the face...
It had all the fury of a scorned woman behind it...
Bone hit muscles with a sickening crunch and Arvind staggered across the room to land on the floor with a painful gasp...
Then all hell broke loose...

"King of bas***ds, bloody cur, mongrel, cursing Khushi threw herself on his prone body, biting, punching, hitting him wherever her hands and teeth reached. Arnav let her beat for a moment before he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her off his body...
"Leave me...I will kill that bas***d, one of her wildly kicking legs succeeding in landing a hard blow to Arvind's ribs, who had half risen from the floor. With a sound of whoof he fell flat to the floor again, groaning, his arms clenched across his abused rib cage...
"You raise a hand against her and I will kill you, she yelled, straining against Arnav's arms. "That bitch is crazy man, get a hold on her, Arving gasped from the ground. "That's enough Khushi, Arnav hissed in her ear. "No, I won't be stopped by anyone today...and you Sojal you betrayed me for this piece of shit...with all the cash we had we could have made a successful life together...and your baby would have gotten a nice place to live and a nice life...but no like the lying-two faced bitch you are you had to go all the way and destroy my dreams as well, she ranted without caring about what the people in the room would make of her rant...
She was too angry to care about niceties, too much in agony to give a shit about anyone's feelings...
"Leave me alone you wh**e son, she shouted at Arnav, straining against his tightening arms. An eerie silence fell across the room and with a sickening feeling she realized that she had gone too far this time...
She had humiliated him yet again infront of his people. Her curse had implied something else, hitting at his vulnerability, reminding him of the humiliation that his mother's betrayal had caused him...
Like the proud man he was, he won't be waiting to turn his cheek twice after her blow...
Lowering his arms from around her middle, he whipped her to face him. "What did you call me?, he pulled her up by the scruff of her neck, eyes lit with murderous rage. But she was Khushi Kumari Gupta, too stubborn to retract her statement...
"You heard what I said, she raised her chin stubbornly, refusing to back down...
"Tell me again if you dare, he snarled savagely...
She didn't want to curse at him again, but damn that tiny malicious part of her that wanted to provoke him, which delighted in his loss of control...
Which wanted the beast inside him to come to roaring life and seek the monster hidden inside her...
She needed the monster to make her feel alive and only the passion and the hatred of the beast could keep it alive...
"wh**e son, she said calmly, her lips stretched in a cruel smile...
She saw the wall of humanity dissipating away from his eyes, bringing the darkness at forefront, the insanity invaded the pupils, tugging at their corners, dilating them, swallowing the golden light...
Until there was pitch black...
The beast howled, the sound one of pain and rage and crushed her into his arms...
The guilty side of her wanted to weep with despair, but the monstrous side of her gloried in pain, welcoming the beast as it bent over her face...
The hot breath hit her lips before they were swallowed by the ravenous mouth of the beast...
Burying the screaming voice of the consciousness the monster purred, welcoming the hatred, feeding on the vitriol pouring from the beast...

Will be back
-
Some people just hold on to that thin thread of hope, knowing that some people would never change.

Just like Arvind, what did Sojal think, that telling that she is pregnant would make him softer toward her.

Or was she just a weak one?

What is Arnav going to do with Khushi. He has a soft spot for her, would she be able to break the beast of him and bring out the human side?

Looking for the next update.

Thanks for commenting buddy! 😃 Khushi is a drama queen, she loves to create drama and she knew by giving him evidence, he might not believe in her, he might rage and rant at her. She eliminated the chances of him not believing. And it was also her revenge for rejecting and ignoring her, she took away his ideals, showed him the mirror as she doesn't forgive people who uses her for their own benefit.
Ramlal felt upset because he had started to have a soft corner for Khushi, he had started to believe that she might not be so hard and evil. So when Arnav rejected her Ramlal sympathized with her. Khushi used that pity card very well. In his sympathy he became weak, he didn't notice what she was doing. so in a way he is angry at himself and at her for deceiving him.

I feel khushi won't rest till arnav comes back to her...
You are right they both need each other as one would need breathe to be alive. He left her, ended the story but she wants him back, and she would do anything to bring him back to her.

Once all the revenge part is over wonder how it wud be once they start behaving like normal people...

they need to flush out all the bitter feelings for them to start behaving normal. they really need a release.
Very nice update
Thanks a lot babe, it means a lot to me. 😃

Don't lose hope babe! 😆😉 When i first started writing this FF many readers asked me that will this story have a happy ending! I said yes, i promised to give it a happy ending.
The happy ending might be a little difficult in their case (i know the way they are going it sounds verrryyy difficult 😆) but it will definitely be a happy ending. You'll just have to keep reading for it to happen. The end will be worth the wait. I promise. 😉

They need to flush out all the toxins out of them and let go for once even if they'll hurt each other with their pent up emotions pouring out.
Their relationship is like a phoenix which dies again and again and takes rebirth out of its ashes. It's twisted, it's warped, it's toxic but it does exist. Don't worry they maybe self-destructive but without each other they won't have anyone to lash out at. 😉

Thanks for commenting dear, will update asap! 😳

THNX FOR BACK TO BACK UPDATE & PM.

Thanks a lot meena! 😃 Glad to know that you are liking the twists so far! 😉
There are two sides to Khushi's personality. One that is sane, a little scared of people but her other side is reckless and fearless. There is a constant battle going on inside her. The insane side of her wants to provoke Arnav at any cost, so he would lose his rational sense. She wants to bring him down to the same level as hers. That way she can communicate more with him, be closer to him in anger. When he turns his cold self, she panics, thinking that he won't need her any more. That's why she keeps doing illogical stuff like that just to rouse him.
And this time you are right she has crossed the boundary, humiliating him was enough but public humiliation. No way that he is gonna let go...

Thanks dear heart for such lovely comments. Keep on reading to know more.
Will update soon! 😳

Thanks for commenting dear! 😃 It will greatly pain him as will increase his anger. After all he's got a reputation to keep in the business world, and this is a death to all of his beliefs, his ideals and his reputation. The pain of humiliation is nothing compared to the destruction of his trust on his mother.
continue soon...
Thank you for pm...
p.s: Take very good care of yourself Dear...I wish you a healthy recovery !!!
Ah thanks for the care momo, it really touched my heart! Sure you too take care!

I really feel bad for Sam.. still think she deserve better not Arnav...

What will happens when he wakes up.. will he able to find her??

Thanks for liking the story updates! 😃 Yep it wasn't to be expected that he would break down. But due to the harsh and cruel life he had lead his body is weaker even if his mind is not. All the past piled up on him, his ideals crashed, the belief and trust that he had on his mother got broken. The revenge for which he gave his twenty-five years got reduced to nothing.
All in all in just a second he became an empty-handed man with nothing to live for and nothing to put his hope on.
You are right they both should understand each other. But what to do Khushi keeps provoking him and his ego is even bigger than his height. 😕 Ramlal is a person who is very close to Arnav, he saved him when he was a child, took him under his wing, cared for him like a father. He had seen Arnav go through pain and metamorphosis. Ramlal knows that the thought of revenge had kept Arnav alive. That;s why he never stopped him when he took revenge.
But after sometime Ramlal found out that Khushi is not the hard-faced bitch, neither the spoilt brat that everyone had thought her too be. He had thought that she would support her father. But she didn't that earned her respect in Ramlal's eyes. And he started sympathizing with her condition. But Khushi had to go all the way and destroy the little respect that Ramlal had for her.
