My dear Deepthi,

I am sorry to be late with my reply, but my hands were very stiff and painful because of my RA.

I agree that the Four Musketeers will not defeat Alexander at Issus. That would really be too gross a distortion of history even for these CVs! And yes, I too remember the High Priestess' pronouncement that no one would ever defeat Alexander on the battlefield. Thank the Lord for that!😉

But I cannot understand the absolute, gosh awful mess that the Friday episode turned out to be, with an ugly Peeping Tom scene with Hasti, and the prolonged, clumsy canoodling between our main lead pair. I stayed till the end hoping there would be something about Alexander, but no, it was Puru all the way.😡

I had hoped to do a post about the character sketch of Alexander, which is coming along very well after Granicus, Halicarnassus, the Gordian Knot sequence, and now Issus in the offing, with Sisygambis about to make her entry. But my hands did not co-operate. Maybe next week. Alexander, even with all the demonisation that surfaces periodically in this script, is far, far more interesting than the goody goody Puru with his long bhashans.

I am putting up a small post about the siege of Halicarnassus, and I would welcome your views on the way it was handled in the serial.

I know aunty I am thankful for small mercies after cn n cas I am like that sorry about like button the reason is I didn't know there was a like button till you said I am new to the forum. PS I love all your posts. But nothing they do can ever destroy Alexander for me I like parallel leads with brains n I prefer them over idiotic losers like other villains who have nothing to do than go after the female leads. Don't worry fantastic four won't defeat Alexander because even if they fight to help barsine puru won't get a chance to give a speech so they won't win. even in battle of jhelum they won't win because remember Oracle's predictions that no one will defeat Alexander in the battlefield he will be defeated outside it because he will be impressed by puru bravery n offer his friendship the battle of jhelum was inconclusive according to history it will be the same in the serial. Otherwise the Oracles would not have said that he will remain undefeated in battlefield.

My dear Ujjwalnayan (howzzat?),

I am really flattered to know that you like all my posts. That says more about you than about me, for my posts are an acquired taste, and not for everyone. And thank you for clicking the Like button, and for agreeing with me as well!

My hands hurt too, because of my RA, so will you please take a look at my response above to Deepthi, about the Friday episode? It was the absolute pits, not just boring but crass.😡

As for the botched up job they did on the siege of Halicarnassus, I have put up a short post about that, and I would very much want to know your take on the likely scenario, taking off from Ada's mysterious hint to Alexander.

Re: your questions, one of the best TV depictions of the pre-Mauryan period was in Chandraprakash Dwivedi's famous 1990 (47 episodes of one hour each) serial, Chanakya. It was apparently very well researched, and they had an excellent rendition of the celebrated appeal by Alexander to his troops, when, after the battle of the Hydaspes, they were unwilling to go deeper into India. The attributions cited for that speech included many great Greek and Roman historians.

Now, in that serial, Porus is shown as over 50. Two of his grown up sons, not just one, died in the battle against Alexander. His daughter was married off to the king of Takshashila, Ambhiraj (here he is Ambhikumar). After the death of Alexander, she manages to bring her husband, who was Alexander's ally, around to supporting Chanakya.

As for Porus, he is not made a satrap of Alexander's. He is given back his kingdom, but he has to rule under the watchful eye of the satrap of the region, a subordinate of Alexander's . Chanakya lures him into supporting the rebels he is gathering to oppose the Macedonian rule over the conquered territories, by promising him the emperorship of the planned Akhanda Bharat. Of course Chanakya had no notion of keeping this promise, for his candidate for the leadership of the Akhanda Bharat of his dreams was always Chandragupta.

I agree with you that it will be very difficult, given the way this Porus has been, and is being shown, to fit him into the above framework. So I think they will stop very soon after the battle of the Hydaspes, and proclaim that Porus had reformed Alexander and converted the kroor, nirmam vyakti into the kind of noble victor who would give a defeated but courageous opponent admirably generous treatment. In short a variation of the Jodha ne Jalal ko haivaan se banaaya insaan theme in Jodha Akbar!!😆

^^ Shymala Aunty I agree with your both posts.

Even I have read Alex and Darius's mum were close with no reference of Darius's sister.

And the battles ofcourse! I skip all Puru scenes which bore the hell out of me to watch only Akexander ones but was greatly disappointed to see Alex getting mysterious ring n next moment he was victorious...W*F!!🤬 Instead of stupid repeated romance..Shivdutt big eyes ...And vishkanya crap they could show us what we want...Some real battle scenes.

But my main query is..I have read somewhere Porus was elder and his son also participated in Battle of Hydaspes..So are they planning to Show PURU and his paltan Defeating Alexander In Issus only as Mahan Dasyu/Yuvraj Puru kuch adhura nhi chodta..

And Also Alexander appointed Porus as his Satrap...But here looking how egoistic he is will he take the offer?

They have butchered the character Porus so much...That i have lost complete interest in him...The only saving grace of show for meis Rohit...The best Alexander I have seen so far. I 'd quit the show long ago if it was not him.

ps.I can keep up my rants...I m really frustrated...But my fingers hurt...Ouch!😆

PPS I like all ur posts Shymala Aunty and didnt forget to click the like button this time 😳

Rohit has certainly created a benchmark for all actors who may play Alexander in the future. I have loved his acting in Razia Sultan as Mirza/Altunia and I find him even better as Alexander. he is a treat to watch.😊
