homecoming with Ali Abbas Zafar's Bharat
starring Salman Khan. Bharat is slated for an
EID release next year. Amid this, speculations
of PeeCee to star in Kalpana Chawla's biopic
have been doing the rounds for the longest
time. However, according to a DNA report,
the biopic isn't happening anytime soon as
Kalpana's husband, Jean-Pierre Harrison, has
apparently declined to give away the rights.
The project was to be directed by Priya
Mishra, who was reportedly working on the
script for around seven years and had also
met up with Chawla's father, BL Chawla,
several times wherein he allegedly signed
the deal with her.
In the same report, a source is quoted
saying, "After Kalpana's demise, all rights
associated with her estate are said to have
been transferred to Harrison and no one
else besides him can give the permission to
make the film. Even though Priya may have
got the go-ahead from Kalpana's father, it
seems that alone may not be enough to
make the biopic. Priyanka's team has tried to
acquire the said rights from Harrison, but
apparently, he hasn't agreed to grant them
yet.
Kalpana Chawla, who hailed from Karnal,
Haryana, was the first Indian woman
astronaut in space. During her second
expedition with six crew members in
February 2003, the space shuttle exploded,
killing all the members aboard it. She had
spent 31 days, 14 hours and 54 minutes in
space.
Recently, when PeeCee was asked about the
biopic, she had swiftly dodged the question
by saying that she is looking for the right
scripts.
