I am writing this as a qualified psychiatrist by profession and a married woman of 4 years in my personal life. I have known my husband all my life. No we are not cousins as I am Hindu from northern India by religion.
I am not really condemning what others have been interpreting about the characters. I just wanted to put a bit of my degree in use and draw a characteristic sketch..
ZOYA
I may sound nuts to a lot of people here but I am proud of zoya. Knowing the kind of background she is coming from , I am amazed with the kind of strength she has shown. How are people considering her as a weak character is something which I am failing to decipher.. I have read a lot of posts regarding how stupid or how weak zoya is. Common , zoya didn't choose to be naive. That is how she was brought up. Protected.
Over protected children tend to lose their capabilities to take their own decisions and are a lot worse than zoya. Zoya has taken a lot of decisions which a person with too many liberties at home fail to take. She CHOSE to marry yash. She CHOSE to work for ZOSH , and lastly she CHOSE to trust Yash(her husband). She wasn't stupid to not have believed the infidelity factor because all her life , she had seen her Abbu ammi living together in marriage that was full of love and respect. Fortunately / unfortunately Her Denial has proved to be her biggest strength. Keeping her sane enough and not jumping to conclusions has given her the closure and acceptance that her husband is dead. Cheated or not being cheated upon is a secondary factor. When you see your spouse who was the life to you , dead , you grieve. And zoya did. That's why , she is now , with her full capabilities , trying to unlock the mystery of death or extra marital affair , etc. That's human nature. You can't just flip your personality in a day. Its a gradual process. From being a small town girl with so much of sheet covering you, to decide to reside in a new resident in a city like Mumbai with no home , and to atleast try to pull her husba nd's company (no experience of work ) out of depth requires too much emotional strength. To look past through the facade of a person who is hell bend to make you believe that your husband cheated, requires a huge heart. And how do you really expect her to snap back at aditya so soon? She is NOT that kind of person. She has NOT met someone as aditya and doesn't really know how to deal with it , and I am so happy to see her learning , in. Perfect pace. From being scared of him to actually and finally slapping him. Cvs are actually doing a great job with her character. People like zoya exist. She is so emotionally strong that her surroundings and people fail to change her thought processes. She CHOSE to look into the matter and to know whether or not her marriage was broken a lot before than the actual death. If yash cheated , ofcourse she will be shattered but she atleast gave him a benefit of doubt for being her husband. And it will be her own findings and not anyone shoving up on her throat and she certainly didn't jump to conclude the worse.
ADITYA
Now this man , is an overgrown , emotional kid. I can relate to him so much because I have treated a guy , an exact replica of aditya. I agree that aditya's anger is misplaced and is extremely outrageous. But , for someone who has been grown-up seeing his parents not respecting each other and his father , his supposed hero cheating on his mother , his psychology got so brutally disturbed , that he couldn't get out of it. His relationship with pooja was his only hope , his only escape. I disagree with people who think that aditya followed pyaar Dosti hai Funda. I believe that Aditya considered himself lucky enough to fall in love with his best friend. He didn't think that it was necessary to always put words to show his passionate love to his wife because he always thought that pooja understood him. People with such disturbed childhood , are never secure in a relationship. Aditya trusted her , loved her with all his heart but somewhere deep down , he was always afraid to have his trust broken (the fear which even he was not aware of) . The reason why he refused to give benefit of doubt to his pooja. This is NOT because he didn't love her , but because he loved her a bit too much to have his rationalism being thrown out of the moment he saw the joined hands and remember her saying she was going to Chennai. Adi jumping on to conclusion was obvious as all he has known for all his life is that people cheated. No matter how close you are , there is still a chance that you will get betrayed.. Aditya always HOPED pooja would never do this to him. He is the most flawed character that I have seen ever on the television and he is the most relatable . People like aditya who are so emotionally unstable , and hurt tend to do stuff which a normal person would despise. Agreed , his actions and anger are on the wrong person but zoya is the only person where is kettle is angled because zoya is letting him to do so. Now that zoya will take a stand , aditya will mellow down a bit. But to say to a Person who is not really in his senses that what you are doing is not right , will fall on the deaf ears. Aditya is looking for his peace. Which he won't really get it unless until he grieves for his dead wife.
The only difference between aditya and zoya here is , right now , zoya's only pain is the loss of her husband but aditya on the other hand , he is missing pooja , he is hating her, he is loving her , and the worst part , he doesn't even know what to feel. Its all rushing back and through.. he has never known how to handle his temper and emotions , as pooja always looked out for him. Now he is absolutely failing to hold on to himself. So , as Arjun said , he has switched off his emotional switches . Arjun , this is because his anger is what letting him live , he would have died with the pain.
All in all , I am surprised with cvs for portraying such beautiful characters to us which are extremes and relatable. Let's give them a chance to build up the story .. all those , ranting out in frustration that they signed up for Harshad and Jenny and want to see them , the story is about aditya and zoya and not Harshad Jenny. Character development is a must and they are putting it in a good pace. Its only three wks anyway.
P.s i won't mind if yash zoya scenes are minimised thoda.
