Part 32
That thought still echoed in his head until the next day. He wasn't himself when he met with the preferred interior designer of Sam's friend.
Geet hadn't called him or texted him in days. He could bet she spoke to the manager, and
maybe even the great Ms Handa needed time to make up excuses.
Pari - You okay
Maan shook himself back to reality - I'm sorry. I just... I mean, I didn't have much sleep last night.
He tried to look at her - You were saying?
She smiled - I'll show you the designs in the coffee shop around the corner. Trust me I can use some caffeine as well
He tried to focus on the date, but he was not able to.
They went to Starbucks. After getting their coffee they discussed about design aspects. She showed him her work and spoke about some places that inspire her. They seemed to agree upon some work too. He felt, he was able to have a normal conversation with her.
He sighed as they said goodbye. He tucked his hand in his pocket taking in the odd feeling of restlessness. She cutely spun in her heels and looked at him shyly.
Pari - would you like to join me for an interior design show tomorrow. Like my plus one.. She pulled out the pass and showed him.
Maan shook his head - I'm sorry
Pari was surprised, but she didn't show it to him. In fact, she felt little odd, since everything seemed perfect with them so far.
She looked at him thoughtfully - girlfriend?
Maan immediately said - No
Pari - Just broken up?
He didn't answer. He didn't know what to say any more.
He wondered, when he has gotten out of a bad relationship a long time ago. And yet... why he was turning down a date with Pari?
He composed his perplexed mind - Okay. I'll change my answer. Yes, I'll come with you as your plus one.
There was nothing wrong with saying yes to Pari. He tried to convince himself that the whole day. It was probably the first time he has formally planned a date. Not as a favor or as repayment of debt. He tried to convince himself. He knew he should be feeling excited. Instead, he felt ...he felt this odd, really uncomfortable thing. The feelings was too strong to overlook. He almost called Pari to cancel the whole deal. But Sam insisted he should go. He even thought about to call her at 7pm even though he was all ready.
Pari was a cute girl. She was beautiful lively.. Had similar sense to interior decoration. They had lot in common. She was more like someone he could relate to. Still he doesn't understand why he felt so heavy inside. Even when he picked her up from her place, his heart felt like it was going to break in half and shatter to the ground. Like he had to stop this whole thing and be somewhere else.
Most of the people in the party were interior designers, and some of them were like him, brought in as plus ones. He thought he should be feeling happy to meet all this people. But in fact he felt lonely.
He belonged in this world. He kept repeating to himself. Somehow, he felt silly because he didn't know why he felt so out of place. He wasn't even at ease talking to these people.
He stood in one corner while Pari talked to one of her friends on the other table. He knew this date idea was all crap. He was not ready for all this. Not because of Pari.
Geet - Still working
His chain of thought was disturbed when he heard a familiar voice. He was almost was too afraid to turn around to face the owner of that very familiar voice.
He stared at Geet blankly. The expression on her face was hard to describe. She looked unexplainably calm and intense at the same time. She looked... looked miserable.
