- And is it just me who felt he had some funky business going on with his servant?
- What kind of faltu security did Ratnasimha had? They just sat watching while he disappeared into thin air?
- Why did she not travel with 800 women and went into battle instead of mass suicide?
- In the jauhar scene she casually walked into the fire when real life fire victims are usually running around while being lit on fire.
Why?
- They had kids but they were irrelevant to the plot. I think you have misheard/mistranslated Shahid saying "I cannot water your desert". Padmavati is from Sinhala (Sri Lanka) while Ratan Singh is from Chittorgarh (Rajasthan). There is one point in the movie he apologizes for bringing a girl of the ocean to the desert. I think it maybe in reference to this.
- Malik Kafur became Khilji's most trusted aide and confidant. Many historians speculate that Malik Kafur may have been a lover as well. This is not surprising. Malik Kafur was castrated to be a eunuch. It was very common for all kings of the era to have eunuchs in their harem.
- I wouldn't fault Ratan Singh's security. It was Ratan Singh who went waltzing to the enemy without security.
- I think that is the biggest question most people have. Why didn't she go to battle? According to legend, Padmavati was an accomplished archer. In addition, it is claimed most Rajput princesses did learn swordsmanship and other means. They did manage to mount a defense of throwing hot coal on Khilji. Why not fight to the death and commit suicide only when defeated or captured? But the movie was based on the book and in the book, a firebrand princess meekly commits Jauhar.
- Because the final sequence only shows women walking towards the fire. They never show footage of the women in the fire. Once in the fire, they would have reacted like most burn victims. Bhansali intentionally didn't show the actual burning because that can be quite gruesome and traumatic.
