'I am playing a 78-year old man' – Kashmera Shah

Best known for her role in Jungle, Kashmera Shah has off-late been focusing on Hollywood. Indiatimes Movies chats with the actress about her upcoming projects and her future in Bollywood

What's next on the list after The Bollywood Bride and Pappu Paas Ho Gaya?
I have just finished shooting for a Hollywood film – The Prince, the Pimp, the Jackal and the Spade . It's being made by Benny Aturi , the guy behind 'Thirteen Conversations About One Thing'. The film is in the post-production phase and is slated for release in May this year.

Interesting title. What is the movie all about?
The film is about four room mates who are very different from each other. But they have a common mission – to be able to pay off their house rent. The movie revolves around these four characters and the length to which they go to get the money for paying off the rent.

Tell us more about your character in the film.
Well, I am playing the 'jackal' in the movie. A conwoman who adopts four disguises to get her work done. I even end up playing a 78-year old man, infact a dhongi baba in the movie.

Have you ever conned someone in real life?
Not really, but in a fun way, definitely yes. Infact, it was during the shoot of the PPJS. We were shooting in Los Angeles and I had been asking Pooja Batra to drop in sometimes since she stays there. She called me one day when I was in the 78-year old saint's disguise and said that she was on her way to meet me. So I told my assistant to just record the episode that would follow. When Pooja arrived on the site, I was sitting beneath a tree and she didn't even give me a second glance. Then, when she was asking the crew for me, I just popped out of nowhere and hugged her. She was zonked. She started screaming and tried to free herself from my grip. It was only when I told Pooja that it was me – Kashmera , that she was relieved.

Are you working on any Bollywood projects currently?
I am working on two projects. One is Faisal Saif's Osama in which I have a lead role. It is a film full of action and comedy. As far as the other project is concerned, a big production house is involved and I cannot talk about it as of now. There again, the audiences will see me in a substantial role.

So have you given up on doing item numbers?
Absolutely not. I love doing them but the song has to really interest me. I recently shot two dance sequences. ' Fukon Faka' for Masti Express which is a very raunchy number. That apart I have also done a number for 'Yeh Sunday Kyun Aata Hain'

Are you open to taking part in reality shows after a certain image that you had got, post-Big Boss?
I love reality shows. I am even considering hosting a reality show for Star. Though things are still in the nascent stage, all I can disclose it that it will be a lifestyle reality show between families. Also, I have no issues with the kind of person that I came across during Big Boss. Everyone reacts to pressure differently and I am the kind who gives it back aggressively. I am happy that I didn't come across as a flirt, a cry baby or as a person who sulks. I have no regrets that I admitted that I was there to play a game. If anyone else didn't, they were being unreal because they had signed a contract that clearly said we were part of a game where we had try and get others thrown out.

What is the kind of films that you'd love to a part of?
Personally, I love to watch science fiction. I wish I could be involved with movies like Matrix, Lost and The Fifth Element.

Your wish-list doesn't include any Indian films. Does this mean that Bollywood doesn't fascinate you anymore?
That is not true. I see myself continuing in Bollywood. But it will be selective since Bollywood has pre-defined notions about actors who fit lead roles. On the other hand, Hollywood is open to actors as far as they can do justice to the role. Also, in the international arena, actors are recognised for the kind of work they do and not just the length of their roles.

Sometime back, you also tried a hand at theatre. Is anything exciting happening on that front?
So far, I have done four plays. And now, one of them – Beauty, Brains and Personality is in the process of being revived. As and when that happens, I will be on stage again. What makes stage a fun place to perform is the instant recognition that you get from the audience. When you are doing a film, people can't reach you backstage and congratulate you about your work.

Where do see yourself five years from now?
Settled in Mumbai with a baby, and a husband ofcourse. Hopefully, it will be my boyfriend Krushna. As far as work is concerned, I will continue to strike a balance between Hollywood and Indian films.
