I felt the same. Kajol was/is one of my favorites but she was unbearable in MNIK with all the screeching and squealing. She had no chemistry with SRK either. I didn't notice her acting in Dilwale since it wasn't an acting kind of movie anyway but even here, the chemistry was nothing great. It's just that people remember DDLJ and KKHH and just accept the chemistry as a continuation of that.

I saw her South Indian movie VIP too - she wasn't good at all. Honestly I think she's suffering from the fact that she doesn't work enough so her skills get rusty.

I used to be a huge SRK/Kajol fan but after MNIK, I had no desire whatsoever to see them again together. In today's time, if you ignore their past, SRK has much better chemistry with other actresses.

Kajol probably has Dushman that she carried on her shoulders alone. But since her comeback after marriage, she can barely manage to act well even in the big deal films with SRK.
