Used to be okay in the olden times with monarchy but is mostly seen as taboo now.

Per the Hindu Marriage Act, its illegal to do so unless its within religious customs.

Some communities do allow marrying second cousins.

Depends on where in India you go though. Its common in South India to marry cousins for marriage since it is a matriarchal society versus other states which are more patriarchal.

So its legal and illegal at the same time

Sorry if I confused you, its a little complicated to explain since its subjective.
