Why? Because she was magic. Because she was charm, elegance, beauty, talent...everything rolled up together..one mesmerizing package. She made me cry copious tears in Sadma, gave me a bellyful of laughs in Mr India. In Chandni, she was the embodiment of what every girl aspires to be in a georgette saree. In Lamhe, she was everything...funny, beautiful, sensitive and magical. In Khuda Gawah, she stood shoulder to shoulder with Big B...certainly not an easy task. In English Vinglish she was strength. Shakti. So what was she ever not? She was EVERYTHING!! ❤️ A star in every sense of the word. A Diva. A Queen. A Goddess.

I am still too upset and tears brim up when I watch anything of hers circulating on social media...be it a movie clip or pictures of her final journey. Yet I punish myself and watch because I cannot tear my eyes away. It's like I knew her. The loss feels personal. :((

👏

Because she was magic. You cannot imagine anyone else in the world doing those roles better than she did. In an age where only Amitabhs, Rajesh Khannas and Sashi Kapoors' dialogs used to represent hindi-films, she created her own space when audience watched her movies time and again just to enjoy and relive HER roles - be it in Sadma with her cat Hariprasad, or in Laadla her You understand ? You better understand, or in Chandni her sheer beauty, or in Mr.India her Bacche bacche hokar kiun paida hote hai bade hoke kiun nahi paida ho sakte, or her legendary Charlie Chaplin act, or her double role in Chaalbaaz or in Lamhe or in latest English Vinglish. She makes it difficult to choose her best work by giving THESE many memorable performances. I dont think there will be any other female actor or superstar to recreate this kind of magic on screen.

The fact that her reigning era had no internet, helped her in maintaining her 'Star' status/aura. And she died like one too. Managed to distant herself enough from audience that there would always be a bit of curiosity about her. She didn't make herself so easily accessible to the audience like Madhuri or other superstars. Hence, people never got enough of her. 💔

Edit - I cannot express myself properly on why I love Sri Devi SO much. I just do. Hence the blabbering about her work and all above. Sorry

I actually don't. She acted in one of my fav movies which is Mr. India. English Vinglish was so much fun to watch. Tbh so was Judaai. Guilty Pleasure. It's some of her movies that I really like. Though, I have not seen most of her movies but whatever little I watched I have liked. I have always liked Madhuri more tbh.

I wasn't even a Sridevi fan or maybe subconsciously I was. But this news has certainly affected me. Like many , I grew up watching her. As a kid I was obsessed with each of her movies ... Mr India, Lamhe, Nagina, Chalbaaz being my fav. Was so excited about her comeback in English Vinglish. I also feel sad that I always brought the media narrative about Sri being arrogant etc when in reality it was just her reserved , introverted nature.

Awww MB. 🤗

The loss feels personal for so many. I could see the way everyone around me is talking about her.

I love her as Shashi Godbole. English Vinglish has so many personal memories and connect. The way she embodied the role. The photo they used on her the truck is also from EV.

She resembled my Mom in that movie. The demeanor, the warmth, kindness, calm and sweet persona, the zest, the anxiety, that fear. Last time, my mom came to USA and the way she picked up English, learned to use phone, Internet, whats-app, Facebook, YouTube. Searching n reading of Ayurvedic stuff. She could even understand what we talked. Hubby and I used to call her Shashi Godbole.

Shashi will forever be special. Sri will be missed on Bada parda. She was made for it.

Well I never really respected her as a person for obvious reasons but onscreen, she was pure MAGIC! I absolutely loved her as an actress, dancer and comedian...she was a brilliant performer, an all-rounder!! ⭐️ She is a legend!

May her soul RIP 😭
