have in the industry. She has acted in all
kinds of films and given brilliant
performances.
Over the last few years, Tabu has
experimented a lot with the kind of roles
she does. It doesn't matter to her if there is
any big hero in the film or not, she always
stands out with her performances.
In an interview with a leading daily, the
Maachis actor revealed the reason why she
did such dark and intense characters in her
films. Tabu said, "You didn't want to play
these women and what stood out about
these characters was that they were not
aspirational. But that's exactly what drew
me to them. I wanted to be those
characters."
She added that she didn't find anything
wrong with those women and neither did
she judge them. She mentioned that the
reason she could portray them was that she
understood the depth of their frailty.
It is being said that women in Bollywood
don't get much to do sometimes in films
and are nothing but eye-candies. However,
Tabu said that there have been films since a
long time such as Mother India, Seeta aur
Geeta, Chaalbaaz, and Raat aur Din where
women have played layered characters. She
said, "Women have definitely played much
more than eye-candies, but now the
difference is that leading ladies are much
more courageous to take on layered
characters. Also, society is changing, we
know that women should not have one-
dimensional lives or personalities. So, in that
way, it's also fashionable to have layered
characters for women."
When she was asked will she change
anything in the film industry if she becomes
a director, Tabu said that the changing value
systems, the relationships and all this is a
huge shift in human consciousness. She
added that all this is very interesting but can
be disturbing and reassuring sometimes.
Is there is any formula for art? The actor
answered that it comes out of pain, joy,
freedom or love. She added, "Creativity and
art is such a deep field that there is no
formula but whenever we express, whether
artists or not, we will always express what
we are experiencing."
